Default engine cleaning

I have a silly question how to clean a LS1 engine my last vette was a 92 with a LT1 and if a drop of water got on the optispark it wasnt a good thing so what is the best way to clean a LS1 without damaging it?

I rinse mine off at the car wash. BUT I don't pull the lever for high pressure. Then I go home and wipe it off and I use superior tire and leather dressing to wipe everything down. The rubber hoses and such loves it as it helps to protect them from drying out.

If I remember to I try to take something to cover the alternator but it's not a have to.

As an FYI many people who have LT1's and 4's hose their engine off. Once they came up with the vented opti it was no longer an issue.

Depending on how dirty your engine is, some Simple Green and a soft water hose should do the trick. Get some extra shop rags with soap/water as well.

Due to all the sand I suck up when driving the Florida beach area roads, I always wash off my engine after every wet or dry car wash. A simple, wet rag followed by some Adams VRT or Aerospace 303 goes a long way!

I do not have my FRC's on the motor, so any part that should not get wet I take tin foil & cover each part/component, ie: coil packs, etc.

After rinsing, the tin foil just peels off & you can either re-use it or use new........then a final dressing of your choice. Should be no problem, good luck.

I'm curious also about the engine cleaning process, ie, lightly spraying it down. Would love to see a video of it being done.

I'm too leery, but someday will try it.

Here is a video by Adam's. This is primarily how I clean my engine bay. Be careful using Simple Green, it is very corrosive to aluminum.

i use purple power and a 1500psi pressure washer and remove the fuel rail covers. i do not cover anything. after washing use an electric leaf blower to remove excess water and any debris that might collect in the pockets of water. i have done this several times since i bought the car in Nov 2011. car now has 120,000 miles.i have put 15000 on it in 8 mos.

I've always used Super Clean (purple bottle) on all my engines with great results. However I see that most people use Simple Green on their vette so that's what I use on my C5. Not sure what is better but I did use Super Clean on my C4 with great results (just don't get it on paint or chrome parts).

Something else I do is take an air hose to my engine bay to loosen any debris that may be stuck on or in areas that require an extra persuasion.
