Well they don't make them anymore ane no one repairs the early ones.
Even the "M" code early EBCMs bring big bucks.
That is always something to consider if buying a pre 2001 C-5.
One guy here was looking for one of these (active handling) last week and he was offered one for $1200 and he claimed he found one 6 months ago for $250. He's either very lucky or lying. Then he trashed the guy that offered one $1200.
800 is the cheapest i've seen one go in the past year or so. everyone is wise to the fact that they are rare and a dwindling resource.
there is a bit of a limit to how far they can go though. with 100k mile 1997 cars only fetching 7k or so a lot of guys aren't going to want to spend 2k on a 7k car

I think you could simply delete the option with a tech 2, then remove it and re-plumb all the fittings and drive the car without it. Would be like a hotrod from the 50s then. prolly get a 15 pound weight reduction to boot!

been discussed here before. not possible from what everyone says.
If mine goes bad I'll turn the damn thing off! $2000.00 buys a lot of beer and mods!

My lights have been on for 8 months. I have had chances to buy one for as low as 495, wo active handling, but I'm not convinced mine is bad. It may be a ground because sometimes it actually works.
This is one of the reasons GM went **** up, and beyond possibly buying another vette at some point such as a C6, I WILL NOT BUY ANY OTHER GM PRODUCT NEW OR USED. BANK ON THAT. And I have always been a GM man.
There was one a couple weeks ago for 795 IIRC. I'm lucky, I don't have active handling. I wish I didn't have TC either.
It's nothing but a pain in the ***. At 54 if I can't drive wo all this BS I shouldn't be on the road.

I dig what your saying man, I'm 65 and have drove a lot of cars a hell of a lot faster than my c-5 without all this traction control crap! The first thing I do after startup is turn this B.S. off! My old coupe would have eaten my c-5 for breakfast and I drove and drag raced it for 14 years without killing my self. [low 11 second car]. I hate this ebcm stuff!

I'll bet somebody knows how to disable the active handling. Although it's probably illegal to do so, for a street driven car.
I think its amazing that some after market firm hasn't picked up on this. I don't think 2K is the benchmark price, but I'll bet they could sell plenty at around $600 or $700.

There's the reason nobody would disable it for you. I'll still bet somebody knows how. Lots of guys have figured out how to reprogam these cars, if they can do the fuel, timming, shifts, they can do the active handling too.
It [active handleing/traction control] is automatically on when you start the car but you can push a button and turn it off. i wonder if a tuner or someone could reverse the thing so it would be off on startup and you could engage it if you wish? Then i could just leave it off!

don't see why not. the information has to be stored on a prom. would be a matter of finding out what type of prom and....now for the really hard part, having a way to burn the new data with that changed command onto it.
if low volume isn't the reason they haven't made these the stuck together boards must be. suppose it's possible that this is a difficult part to reverse engineer.
if anyone gets bored call standard motor products and ask them if they have any plans to make one of these. they are just a giant auto parts manf. and typically make nearly everything
