The officer's at fault for not knowing the law. You lucked out. I once wrote a citation to a woman for driving her car at 3AM with NO MUFFLER and she took it to court and the judge dismissed it. There's no accounting for what may happen in a court room.

I got the same ticket last year. I sanded the tint off using 800-2000 grit sand paper, then went to the police station BEFORE DUE DATE and told them i had fixed the violation and asked for the ticket to be waived or dismissed. They went outside to check if I had indeed fixed the problem, and charged me a $10 dismissal fee.
