The front weatherstrip is NOT supposed to be reused and I don't know if it is C5's or just the Z06 but you have to make sure they have the right piece for the front otherwise it will be dull and not match the pieces on the side.

I'm the OP, should have mentioned we had the w/s on our 2001 Coupe replaced during a road trip in 2001. AFAIK, none of the trim pieces were replaced, I seem to recall they had some minor scratches etc but didn't look any worse afterward. New HUD glass was claimed to be by OEM but different markings, worked fine for the next 50k miles before we traded the car.

However, almost a year later I drove for several hours in really heavy rain, when I got to the motel there was a real lake behind the passenger seat. I bailed/sponged/dried it out as best I could, fortunately no mold problems.

Returning home, I took it to the dealer; who called me and asked if the windshield had ever been replaced. I told them yes, they said water was leaking in around the edge somewhere, running back under the sill trim, and collecting behind the seat. They fixed the problem for a couple of hundred bucks, I called the installer and he wasn't very happy but paid me for the dealer work probably because I had also told State Farm and they would drop him from the approved list if he didn't stand behind his work.

It is my understanding after chatting with several glass fabricators that the Pilkington supplied glass is a slightly harder alloy..yes it is slightly more brittle, but that is the trade-off for slightly higher resistance to micro scratching by dirt on the wiper blades over time.

I have had 2 replacements in my Vette now....the most important part of the change-out is not just the glass itself, but also including ALL NEW inner rubber gasket and glue-in trim pieces as part of the glass swap. It is absolutely possible to get around this and just cut out the old glass, and glue in the new glass, but to be assured of best fit and appearace, the glass shop I use will NOT do the job without all new stuff around the glass itelf..The results are great...CANNOT tell the glass has been replaced other than by looking at the trademark on the glass itself. Never a leak...and appearance is as-built new.

If the ZO6 windshield is thicker, can it br used on a 2000 FRC or are the mountibg locations that surround the windshield made to occupy a thinner glass?

Also, how would you rate the different options of glass fro OEM to Aftermarket in order of resistance to chips, etc?

Lastly, does anyone know the Part Number to the windshield weather strip for a 2000 FRC? I dodge rain to avoid small drops from entering the driver side A pillar. Germany's inclement weather took a toll on my weatherstrip.....that, or the sweltering heat in Arizona!!

(See post #22.)

We had used the car as a daily driver for nearly a year, in all sorts of weather including lots of driving in rain. Lots of car washes, both touchless and using the hand wand. Never saw a drop of water until that day when the seat well filled up from driving in heavy rain.

So, doing the hose check (after all the sealant has dried!) is a good start, will probably catch 99% of the leakers. But not 100%.

According to Safelite's online quote for my 2000 Coupe:

Web-Only Price: $714.95 (Non-HUD glass)
(includes labor and $464.95 molding,
before tax and service fee(s))

Web-Only Price: $1149.90 (HUD glass)
(includes labor and $464.95 molding,
before tax and service fee(s))

So obviously the molding is what is putting the bill up so high. My question to this group is the molding they are talking about the weatherstripping around the a pillar and targa top or is it the plastic molding around the windshield itself? It seems like if an installer can re-use that molding you are really saving yourself a lot of money.

Anyone have a part number for this molding? I did some research for the weatherstripping and best price I can find for new is Mid America. They wanted $399.99 for it.

Here are the part numbers for the windshields:
10295096 for Coupe - no HUD ($305.34 from gmpartsdirect)
10295097 for Convertible and FRC - no HUD ($320.59 from gmpartsdirect)
10426713 for Coupe with HUD ($515.36 from gmpartsdirect)
10426714 Convertible and FRC with HUD - now 10315114 ($544.97 from gmpartsdirect)
10426201 Z06 now 10315114 ($544.97 from gmpartsdirect)

Did some more research and answered some of my own questions I think. I think the confusion comes in for me when people refer to the weatherstripping around the windshield as molding. Which it kind of is but GM lists the part as weatherstripping. This is the weatherstripping that goes around both a-pillars and the top of the windshield.

Weatherstripping - 10333466 (Coupe) - $391.50 from gmpartsdirect

There are a couple other pieces that people seem to recommend replacing. They are called reveal moldings and are the black pieces on the sides of the windshield. Not sure about whether or not you *need* to replace these I just though I would post up the part numbers.

reveal molding - 10431271 and 10434738 (left $47.39 and right $75.19)

Oh I would recommend Gene at gmpartshouse.com for these parts vs gmpartsdirect. I used their website just to give people an idea of cost. He stands behind what he sells.

I have scratches and a few chips on the windshield of my 2001 Z06. The dealer told me last week that the factory windshield is no longer available. The local shop told me that they could offer a replacement for around $300 installed. It would have the antenea in it and would not be the thinner Z06 windshield. They did not list one for the Z06. I called safelite today and they did not know what a Z06 Corvette was. They offer HUD or non HUD replacement glass. I do not want another antenea in the windshield and I understand that the thicker glass would not fit the Z06 trim properly. Is this correct?

Thickness of glass: Wouldn't the installer prefit the glass to ensure it's proper fitment and realize it will or will not be correct sizing?

And wow, thats alot for a damn windshield. I spoke to a guy here in Texas and they quoted me $130 installed for my 2001 Yukon. To me, glass is glass.....But if the glass included all that extra crap for a Corvette ($400 or whatever) that seems fair. But $700, $800, $900+..... I think that is total BS and way overpriced.
