Default Adding an extra quart for track use?

I've read this a few times, that people are adding an extra quart of oil for track days. Is it really necessary, and is it being done for non-track use as well?

I presume it was because during cornering the oil sloshes around, but too much oil can cause froth getting whipped up by the crank.

for high G Right hand sweepers mostly. Oil moves to the left side of the pan & Oil pick up is on the right side.

But yes always a good idea.

Yes, add it before and keep an eye on it throughout the day. I burn about a quart a day at the track.

Thanks all for the replies. That's what I was wondering, if being a little over is any issue.

I'm running a catch can, and know that the car uses oil through the PCV, so running a little extra shouldn't be an issue.

It is in the vhs video that came with the car.

I have done it a few times when I have tracked the car

Sometimes it burns off before next oil change- sometimes it didn't

I took delivery of my 97 in May of 97 and read the extra quart advisory in the Owner's Manual. When I added the extra quart it didn't make any sense to take it out so I left it in between track and autocross events and never saw an issue in 6 years of ownership. Did the same with my 03Z for another 6 years with no ill affects.
All C5s have this section in their Owner's Manuals:

Racing or Other Competitive Driving
See your Warranty Book before using your vehicle for
racing or other competitive driving.

Notice: If you use your vehicle for racing or other
competitive driving, your engine may use more
oil than it would with normal use. Low oil levels can
damage the engine. Be sure to check the oil level
often during racing or other competitive driving and
keep the level at or near 1 quart (1 L) above the
upper mark that shows the proper operating range
on the engine oil dipstick. For information on
how to add oil, see “Engine Oil” in the Index. After
the competitive driving, remove excess oil so
that the level on the dipstick is not above the upper
mark that shows the proper operating range.

It is really necessary. The C5 Winged Oil Pan was an attempt to resolve a bearing starvation issue they discovered during the late testing of the LS1 engine and that problem exists in all LS engines produced up through this date. The dry sumps included in the GS, Z06 and ZR1s are there to solve that issue as well. Early dry sumps only had an 8 quart capacity and after a number of engines were lost to oil starvation GM increased the reservoir capacity to 10.5 quarts and the problems seem to have gone away.

If the oil pickup is on the right side of the pan, then it's high G right-hand turns that pose the potential problem, since they cause everything to move to the left.

The pick-up is in the centre of the oil pan.

anything wrong with running an extra quart all the time? Could there be any type of ill effects from this?
