So I was out polishing my wheels on Sunday and when I got to the last wheel I saw that one of the spokes on my HRE 547R is cracked however the one next to it is not and I thought that was kind of odd. So I called HRE and they are working with me to get the issue fixed. Has anybody else had this issue?
Yes. Just recently went through this on the right front of a 541 (18x9.5). HRE took care of me and cut a brand new polished center (3 pc wheel) and reassembled the wheel. I did have some costs due to the need for a new outer barrel. HRE warranties the structure for life. My wheel was 11 yrs old. How HRE handles your issue will depend on what caused the issue once they get a chance to look at it. My crack was on the inside of the spoke so not at all possible to happen with a curb or other type of driver error impact. I still think it was caused by a rock or some other hard item getting kicked up and that created a chip at first, this later allowed the crack to form because of the flexible nature of aluminum wheels and a Z06 suspension.
Good luck and I'm sure they will take care of you properly.
When I went on a tour of HRE (given by the president), I believe he told us that the warranty is limited if the car is raced. The location of the crack may tell them if the wheel was "overstressed".
Please contact me at LonM@hrewheels.com if the issue has not already been taken care of.
Both those wheel styles mentioned above are probably over 5 years old. We of course stand behind our product from any craftsmanship no matter how old they are. Please contact us directly.
