Usually.
Unless of course you're near the capitol and then you have 695 N, E, W & S. They are all the same road. And to make matters worse, 695N goes E and W! So does 695 S. And so on...
A lot of folks giving the OP a "fun" hard time about this, but I agree. I can't tell you how many times I've glanced at the rear view mirror or DIC out of habit, since that's where GM usually sticks the compass. Both my other cars have one, it's a simple but very functional tool to have.

Here's a fun, and, true story !
Back in ancient times, in 1977 ... I spent two weeks on an Army buddies (family’s) ranch in Billings, Montana, 10's of thousands of acres, a cattle ranch, (talk about FUN), while there, he said, Tony, you ever notice cattle/deer, in a herd, always orientate themselves North/South when they graze? Being a city boy myself, I had no idea, but they do seem to do that, so, look for eating cows..but not the two leg kind ...
It doesn't matter what direction you're driving as long as you're driving a Vette. If you get lost, you just get a chance to spend more time in your Vette
Reminder, never, ever go to a gas station to ask directions. If you do, your membership here will be suspended for a time period determined by a vote of all CF members with a C5. Owners of red C5's get two votes.
Hope this helps.

According to the owner's manual for C5 Corvettes, page 12, paragraph 3, "General Motors decided after much debate, not to include the compass to save weight of the car."
