If you tune for E85 and switch back to gas the car be so rich it probably won't run. My race car won't run on gas with the E85 carb on it. We drain the E85 and run gas through it for winter storage, just to be safe. We use about 1/4 more fuel now.
I have to change the whole carb, there is that much difference in the fuel. Trying to run E85 in a gas carb is way lean. I switched because of the cost of race gas and the E85 has more power, and runs much cooler. I can cool my car down in 2 minutes with the E85. If I try and run gas thru my carb it won't even idle, and blows black. Plus it don't have the milking of the oil like metanol does.
I have seen people switch old cars just by changing jets.
I think the issue would only be the tune. I really looked into converting my 78 Z28 to E85
so I could boost it.
The gain is not in the fuel... the gain is in the timing. E85 wont ping so you can
run 14.1 compression in an L98 and not need jet fuel.
It is faster and easier to switch carbs on an L98 then to change jets on a tuned motor.
I would have carried two carbs as well.
I dont think you could switch back and forth without two tunes.

The gain IS in the fuel. I switched from 110 Turbo Blue to pump E-85 and picked up 1.5 tenths and almost 2 mph in our race car. The only thing we changed was the carb and fuel. Every body that I know has picked up by switching to E-85. I pay around $3.19 per gallon apposed to $8.00 a gallon for 110. Even using more fuel it still cost me 1/2 for my fuel bill.
I ran a Holley blue pump for a couple years, with no pump problems. I did switch over to a methanol pump last year, just because I got a good buy on it. It was 1/2 again larger pump than the Holley. I know several guys still running gas diaphrams in their Holley carbs. I do not however, but I figured if I have to replace them anyways I might as well use diaphrams made for methanol.
