Having experienced a couple of instances recently when my battery needed charging, it may be time to fit a new one. Having owned my 2001 Corvette from when it was 4 years old and only 10,700 miles I had always assumed that the battery fitted was its original one (Federal). Now 7 years later and with 24,000 miles on the clock it may be time to replace the battery. But I do like originality, so ideally want to fit like for like. Is the Federal battery fitted the one that would have been fitted when new? Living in the UK it may not be easy to choose which battery to fit - although I have found a Federal one for £119 ($185) with the 'side' posts required. Any thoughts?
Try AC Delco under part number 19001631. 72 month 7 year HD battery that is now mostly used in truck applications. 5 year free replacement IIRC. They list for $151.80, but with a decent discount from the dealer can be had for about $115.00. I believe this is the biggest, most heavy duty battery that will fit in the tray, and is what I put in the car when I bought if 18 months ago. May be difficult to locate in the UK though.
Suggest whichever battery you go with using a trickle battery charger like a CTEK 3300. IMO using the trickle charger extends the life of the battery. Also since you'll have the battery out why not put in a battery mat for insurance. Good luck!
An AC Delco AGM battery was original equipment but AC Delco no longer sells that type, nor is it necessary to use an AGM-type battery. There was a leakage issue with the 97-00 batteries but that type of battery has long been redesigned with a much beefier case, essentially eliminating the leaking issue.
Among the AC Delco brand battery types, the Professional model (7YR for your year C5) is the best.
