Does anyone know of a recall on stock chrome C5 wheels? Both of my rear wheels are cracked, one so bad it will not hold air, car is an 02
with 50K miles not raced or abused in any way.
thanks, EJ.
No C5 ever came with chrome wheels. You either have painted aluminum, polished aluminum (with clear coat), or magnesium wheels.
I know that several cracked, but I haven't heard of any recall associated.
The C5 never came from the factory with chrome wheels. They did come with polished wheels that were clear coated. You may have the polished version or perhaps a previous owner had the factory wheels chromed..
The Thin Spoke polished wheels were prone to cracks over time but as far as I know there was never a recall on them. You pretty much have to replace them at your own cost. I personally would go to a good aftermarket wheel rather than put back a used thin spoke (they are not available new any longer. At least the Factory thin spokes) that may well suffer the same fate.............
This Would not matter anyway as I would think that there is no warranty GMPP etc. that would cover wheels after 10 years or 50K ?
I have seen this several times where the thin spoke meets the outer lip. GM would replace the rim under factory warranty provided there was no evidence of physical damage to the lip of the rim but no recall. I would buy a used set of what ever factory style corvette wheels you like. I see them for anywhere from $350 to around $800 with good tires on craigs list.

Best bet is to get a nice set of aftermarket wheels and enjoy the new look.
There were a number of problems with cracked wheels back in 2006. A few members reported it to NHTSA but I'm nor sure if it was ever filed as a safety issue.
You might want to read this thread. The issue was with the Alcoa rims.
