Default Windshield Wiper Promlem - HELP!

I took my 2002 Z06 garage queen out for its annual bath yesterday - turned the windshield wipers on to drive back into garage to wipe down and they won't return to the "rest" position. They stay off but are positioned like they would be in the delay setting. This Vette has only 10800 mi on it and I really think this may be the 1st time I ever ran the wipers. Anybody that has an idea on a fix - I would sure like to hear from them. Many Thanks.

I'm having a similar problem with my '98 coupe. I'm looking for an answer.

Try checking this: there are some udders under the cowl area - make sure they are clear of any debris. You should also check to see if perhaps the windshield wiper motor/wiper control module has gotten some water in there - if so, the wipers can do some strange things.

I have a 2003 garage queen also and my wipers are dead slow, probably related to sitting idle for years..if you dont use them..well you know the rest of the saying. Wiggle wires, unplug, tap the wiper motor..or replace. Good luck.

I took a look at the shop manual to see if it give any ideas but no luck. I'm not sure what controls the move to "pre-park". There's an accessory voltage applied to the wiper motor which may be it but that seems to be hot at ACC and on. Others may know.

Does it operate normally in all 3 modes except it stays at the "pre-park" position?

I use my wipers a lot her in England and I think the "pre-park" position only really comes into use in the delay mode, although it stops there briefly as you turn the wipers off.

The obvious problem is if you have a mechanical issue with the wiper motor which is preventing it going to park. Is the wiper motor crank arm securely connected? Is the wiper transmission system secure? You need to remove the air inlet grille to get to these parts.

The way the system works is that when you turn the stalk to low or high you apply a voltage to either circuit and the wipers run at that speed. If you hit "mist" or wash you use the low circuit.

The delay function is on the rotary switch and depending on which speed you select routes the current through a resistor changing the delay time. When not moving, the wipers sit at "pre-park" but a voltage is still present.

I'm guessing here but for some reason, if it's not mechanical, a voltage is remaining on the circuit. As Jack says, check out connectors at the wiper module for damage or shorting and the module for water ingress. If not, it could be a switch problem. Try squirting electronics cleaner in there to clean up the contacts and try recycling the rotary switch vigorously to see if the wipers will park.

This is not a common problem, although the headlamp switches are notoriously unreliable. I'm guessing so if anyone knows for sure please pitch in. It can't be too difficult to tie it down.

Post up some feedback if you find it. Best of luck.

I'm thinking a wiper motor going bad given how the system works.

Default Still Trying to wipe - ha!

Thanks for the suggestions so far. When I said "give it a bath" that was just enough to blow the garage dust off (while my cover hangs on the wall). I have a batt disconnect because it sits for long periods and I do think I have a small current drain somewhere because even the yellow top batt won't stay charged for longer than a couple of weeks. I just thought of something - I may not be getting a solid connection at the disconnect?? I will try all the other suggestions y'all made and thanks for the responses. I sincerely hope it's not in the stalk because electricity to me is FM (Frigging Magic!) There have been other mysteries too on this almost new '02 - I've got to start driving it - no way to sell and get the up front $s and all the mod $s back. Y'all know how it is - the first door ding and I would go nuts!
Thanks again,

That doesnt sound right for a wiper motor repair. Let me know if what you did was a long term fix, I'm having the same problem. Mine won't "park" at the home position. Some times they will go down for a little while and fool me, then they will come back up to the pre-park position. Sometimes they will start up and make a swipe all by themselves. I cleaned the junk out of my udders but I think the damage is already done...
