I've got 'em , wagon wheels, they came with the car. But I don't know why.
In passing, a poster here once said these wheels were popular with auto crossers because of strength and weight . I would like to know the specifics , or where to find them, if you do.
The wheels on my car , what I assume are the chrome wagon wheels , must have come from an earlier model.
I always thought I would return the car to normal 2003 wheels, although these have a nice pop against a black car. I would keep them as an upgrade, and as a part of the car's history if I knew enough about them to consider them as an upgrade.
Wagon wheels came originally on all 1997-1999 vettes. In 2000 they came with the first rendition of skinny/narrow 5 spoke wheels. The wagon wheels are the thick wheels that came originally on the c5 when it was designed.
The autocross guys like the wagon wheels because most C5 owners are willing to see them cheap.
I had a 98 black convertible with the OEM wagon wheels and did a wheel exchange for the chrome version. I thought the large chrome spokes looked great against the black car. But most C5 owners and many folks on this Forum, just don't like the wagon wheels, and since they were stock from 97-00 many owners changed to the skinny wheels. This gave the 97-00 C5 the appearance of a 01-04 to the untrained person and made the car look current. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so do what you want, it's your car. And as stated above GM never offered chrome wheels on the C5.
To add to this, no C5s came from the Factory with chrome wheels.
Now, some dealers did remove the wheels and had them chromed on new cars.
Most chromed wheels were done by owners.
where did you get that information? that is very wrong..the wagon wheels did come in chrome from the factory..and zero dealers removed the wheels and the them chromed..that is just plain foolish
