Default Hypocritical conundrum catch 22.....

So I was reading the, now closed, post on the real corvette owners vs. people who own corvettes. I laughed out loud when people freaked out that the new member posted on an old thread about something he felt he wanted to discuss. That is, after all, why we use forums, is to discuss like minded topics. So here are the rules as I'm discovering:

1. Only post new topics that have never been discussed before ever by anyone.
2. Always use the search feature to find a previous post regarding a topic that interests you.
3. If you are unable to find the topic using search you can post it but you will get promptly flamed for not using the search feature and reposting old information.
4. If you are successful in finding your topic with search then do not post because that topic has been discussed by Corvette owners before you and thus is old so your input or insight is no longer needed.
5. If I buy a new to me 2000 model Corvette and it has the rocking seat, column lock issue, sticky airbag, shift skip, non working light bezel, dim A/C display, or any one of the other hundred things that plague the cars we love I am not allowed to post it.

Or maybe, if we all try really hard we can read the thread topic and if its about the rocking seat, and you have already fixed your seat six years ago and that thread just disgusts you to your core and you want everyone to know that you have been a member for a really long time by posting how old it is, maybe, just maybe, you can skip it and move on to another post. Anyway, thats my rant. Don't mess up the posting rules now.......ha!

****Sorry if this topic has been covered before back in 2005. I wasn't a member then and I didn't do a search or post rants*****

Maybe you could just chill....

If a post is too old...some posters may be dead, or moved on to a KIA forum, or it's patently funny that someone posted a comment as if he wanted to join a current discussion without even seeing that it's been YEARS since it's seen the light of day.

BTW, you could stop by some time and join us for coffee at Starbucks.

Your rant about past technical discussions doesn't hold up, as shown in the rules below. You probably didn't search the rule though. The 6 year old thread you're upset about wasn't technical, but was a fluff thread about "real Corvette owners" from 2006. If you have a problem with the rules, take it to the moderators and have it changed. Criticizing them for following the rules is not the answer.

-----------

If an existing thread has not received a reply for a period of 45 days or more, members should create a new thread which is identical or similar in nature, rather than to post to the existing one.

Similar or identical threads created under 45 days will be considered a dupe, and will be locked accordingly.

This rule will not apply to technical discussions or to posts in threads where such posts have been made to update the threads with information deemed by moderators to be of benefit to Forum members.

I have another good rule:

If you don't like the thread or think it is a duplicate or triplicate or whatever.... simply don't reply.

Frequently, when those old threads are revived, many members who see it won't realize that it's an old thread. The information in it may be out of date and it's not helpful to be trying to use that information and not realize it.

Suppliers may go out of business or manufacturers might change their product lines, but in most cases not much changes about these cars. The rubber bits that decay and make our seats rock still decay. Plastic endlinks should still be replaced with metal. Fenders haven't grown larger so only so much tire will fill a wheel well. When something fails the DIC will still show the same code.

Frankly, I'm tired of the indignant "look it up" mentality. Sometimes the search isn't intuitively obvious, especially to a new Corvette owner to whom Vettespeak may as well be Chinese.

But what about....
"What tires should I buy?"
"What oil should I use?"
"What exhaust should I get?"
"Is my car running too hot?"
"How do I program my key fob?"
"Why is my belt chirping?"
"What grade fuel do I need?"
"How do I lower my car?"
"What shocks should I get?"
Etc etc ad nauseam.

You forgot Rule #6:

And after having performed a search, make sure you've read each and every post in the threads you find, even if it's fourteen pages long, because your answer might be found in post #168.

Rather then drag up a post from the past (I for one don't want to get emails about a post I don't care about anymore) like the quote says above start a new one. How hard is that?

If you'll look at the forum rules you will see that the nasty "did you use search" posts are now against the rules.

Everyone was new to Corvette ownership and this forum at one point. Why should new members be expected to do and act any differently than those of us who already asked these same questions when we were new? We should welcome new members, not beat them up because they asked a question that to them is perfectly reasonable.
