I think that is the same build date the one I just bought has. It has no leaks either but I know it was babied. The 2nd owner whom I bought it from was 71 years old and he has had it for over five years. It had 40,200 miles when I picked it up last Sunday.

Nice! Here is my vin: 1GYY12S715127986. See how close they are.

I bought mine in 2009, with just over 42,000 on it. I'm the second owner. I drover it home from Maryland to Southern New Jersey. It just turned 45,000 miles. Since I've owned it, I had it repainted a deeper black. I did put the C6 Z06 shifter and Varram Intake on it but that's it. I love the thing! I will have to put tires on it this year. It still has the original Good Years from 2001. They look good but they are like ice skates when you drive it.

What are you waiting for!? You're a danger to yourself and everyone else on the road.

Do you have a comparison for the original black and the new one? I'm curious to see how much of a difference it was.

I don't want to sound bias since coincidently I have my 01 forsale.

I've owned both versions, currently went back to an 01 again mainly because of the low mile and extremely nice condition compared to others out there forsale.
I feel no seat of the pants difference from the ones I've owned, you really have to hit the dragstrip to measure the difference, and it's a small amount. They all go 0-60 in the 4 second range, and run somewhere in the mid to high 12's, yet still have a 170+ top end. These cars can still get you in trouble, and the 01's are plenty quick enough to do that, and in most cases 90% of the people out there don't drive these things to what they are capable of. Generally the person gives up before the car will.

Personally I wouldn't let the year sway you at all (I don't) for the simple reason that I tune these things and easily fetch another 15-20 HP out of them in bone stock form, so there's your difference if it really bothers you that much
Frankly though, most people modify these things, and once you start throwing parts at it then it doesn't really matter what you start with. Your best bet in my opinion is to find a nice low mile example to start with regardless of the year and go from there. That's what I do and I've never been disappointed. Hope it works out for you

That was the main reason I didn't consider the 01s when shopping around.

It's hard to tell with pictures. This is a pic of the 1/4 panel after paint.
