Default Relocated/deleted reverse lights

I've always thought the reverse lights could be in a better location on our cars and since I can't afford a tiger shark rear bumper, I decided to try this out.

It's all done in simple plastics found at the local hardware super store with a little ricer LED Autozone help.

Thoughts and comments of all kinds are welcome. Enjoy.

Looks cool, but how bright is it? Do you get any better lighting when backing up?

Really nice. I like it a lot. I have a tigershark rear bumper and this would look great on it. Care to list parts used?

I love that the light is lower and more to the edge of the car. I almost backed into a curb at night last week. Thankfully my passenger leaned out the window and saw it coming. I bet your set up would help w that.

2 questions

1. how does it work? because it doesn't look very bright.
2. are the lights melted off by the mufflers yet?

looks pretty sweet though as long as they dont melt down

Thanks guys.

I really haven't driven the car much to see how they hold up but I did put my hand on the mufflers as soon as I got home yesterday. I had been driving "agressively" to say the least and they weren't barely warm to the touch.

As far as supplies used and process goes:
I purchased some flourescent light panneling to dispurse the light better, and some Mega LED strips from Autozone.

I started by removing the rear bumper (PITA) and cleaning behind it. I put the adhesive LED strip at the bottom inside lip of the middle bar facing upwards for best light coverage.

I then cut some strips of the flourescent lighting plastic to cover the holes with an inch or so on either side. I warmed the edges up with a heat gun to make a 90 degree bend in it so I had something to glue to the bumper.

Next I used an industrial glue (had it laying around) to put the plastic in place followed by some super adhesive tape for extra adhesion.

After that all that was left was to reinstall the bumper and solder the lights into the existing reverse lights.

For those looking to brighten up their way backwards, this is not the route for you. These aren't very bright since there isn't a focused housing to correctly project the light. It was done to have white lights on the back of the car when in reverse so cops really cant bug me about it.

The main reason for this was to un clutter the liscense plate area and make room for another project I had in mind. The plate that is back there may be temporary but I'm not sure yet.

Do you guys think it looks good body color or should I do it in gloss black to match the CETA?

Damn I really like that. I would probably add another led strip on both sides If possible. Wish you had pictures of the process

After seeing it in the light today I had to paint it black. The color matches very well but I painted clear plexiglass from the back to make it shiny and that ultra shine was picking up too much reflection and distorting the color. Here it is in black.

nice, but does it effect the handling (airflow through the slots?)

Im thinking a license plate frame (minimal, black?) would clean up the tag edges some and hide the four holes better...

The LED strips are cool. Nice touch. I like that kind of stuff. Thanks for sharing it.
