I know how you feel, Komie Kalifornia has that same law even putting a clear plastic cover over. I decided to get the Factory Z06 Black Bra for my car and it covers my plate and knock on Fiberglass I have not had a issue at all having it on. When push comes to shove I will put on the auto-flip up one on. I have had a cop tell me it was for my safety that I have a plate on the front end of my vette.
Just get a powered show n go. When you're sitting around at the car show or buddies house its tucked out of the way and the car still looks cool. Push a button and scroll it out before you go so you're legit on the road. And even out the plate is so low it doesn't look nearly as ridiculous as when its in the filler area.
I have what I think is a newbie Vette owner question.
I need to plate my C-5 for the first time. The great state in which I live deems it more important to have a front state license plate instead of the cool looking front bumper filler that it sports now. I'm assuming the cover comes off easily enough, but is there some after market filler a person can purchase that goes between the plate and the bumper to soften the transition some.
Thank you in advance
Dynamat makes a sound-proofing pad for license plates that will prevent the plate from scratching your bumper. It attaches to the back of the plate.
I hope I don't create a problem here, but in New Jersey a front plate is required. So many Vettes run without a front plate here, including myself. Many other types of vehicles too. Thirteen years for me and never been stopped for it either, it doesn't seem to be a big issue in this state. I know people who've even gone thru state inspection without it and not had a problem.
Just run no front plate. I've been doing it for 8 years with no problem from the cops. They are always looking at the rest of the car and dont even notice.

I suppose that depends on your State or Province, pretty strict up here, $173 fine. Son's a LEO and they do not ignore missing front plates.
Front plates are useless except to allow cops to laser your car with the radar gun. I know Missouri has looked into saving money by not making front plates. It was something on the order of 2 million a year they could save. It hasn't passed yet...
That's not true at all! In a lot of states, and provinces cops now have high speed side computer cameras mounted on their roofs which enable them to blast through mall parking lots etc. capturing the plates front/back of parked cars automatically identifying stolen/wanted cars. I wish we didn't have them here either (Ontario) but this technology is very usefull to them, not going away, and perhaps coming to states/provinces that do not YET have it.

As a cop i can tell you this, if you do get stopped for no front plate the cop is just checking you out and looking for something else , if you get a ticket its either cuz the cops a dick or cuz your being a dick about the stop. And a ticket for no front plate is a non moving violation so it doesnt go against your drivng record. I havent had a front plate on a vehicle for 12 years and have never been stopped for it, i have been a cop for 6 years.
