Default Gas quality question

So unfortunately I live in Indiana and we don't have chevron or texaco stations so nowhere for me to get techron added gas. I will buy a bottle every now nd then but what is the best quality of gas to get? We have bp, marathon, and swifty. There is a shell about 25 mins from me but its out of the way from where I normally go. Is it worth going that far out of my way to get it?

Thanks!
Tyler

I run Marathon in mine most of the time. Haven't had any problems. And it is an American company.

Fuel is Fuel. Just the additives are different.

buy the lowest cost , high volume fuel for the freshest fuel.

ie the station with all the cars in.

Marathon, Hess, Sheetz, Valero, Speedway

Any of those you mention should be OK, but if they are on the list of top tier brands, all the better. And keep adding the Techron to the tank every now and then - can't hurt anything.

Fuel is blended at the distribution terminals. Additives are a drop in the ocean amount put in at the station.

Indiana had some bad fuel last summer and fall.

Many years ago, I was involved in professional racing of Ski-Doo snowmobiles. In 1986, or 87; they came out with a new high performance version of the top-line sled. Problem was, engines were soon melting down, with scored pistons, all over the mid-west.

Short story is this. They did a test of fuel/gas stations all over, from Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, etc; and found the gas was 'often' not what it was advertised to be. The octane was often 2 or 3 points lower, than stated on the pump.

So, they recalled all the sleds with hi- performance engines, and re decked the heads to lower the compression. Then, they sent out notices to 'try' to avoid 'mom and pop' small town gas stations. In those, the fuel sat in the underground tanks too long (often), and the gas octane deteriorated over time. Also, condensation added moisture to the gas.

The problem was way less evident at main brand type gas stations, particularly busy ones which re-filled their underground tanks, more often. There was no measurable difference found, between brands! All, were sometimes lower octane than the pump said, by a point or two. 93 octane was often 91; 89 was often 87; and 87 was often 85 octane.

That is why we often burned Aviation fuel, 100 octane, in our high compression race engines. Federal regulations, for aviation safety, demanded that the octane was in fact, 100 octane. We were running 15.3/1 compression engines on 100 octane. That same engine would burn down in 1000 feet, on '89' octane fuel (which usually wasn't really 89). Ask me how I know that?

So, probably IMHO, any quality known brand station is alright. Especially if it is heavily used, demanding it to re fill it's underground tanks often with 'fresh' gas. That, is important!!!

additives are added at the truck rack at the terminal when the tanker is loaded . . not at the station.

In Indiana you can use Shell, it is sold at Circle K and others. This will have Techron.

I only do Shell here in KY I think its best quality gas ...one example the beater that I drive to work its 92 taurus each time I fuel up at speedway the car runs like crap I mean to the point it almost wants to stall ...if I use a shell regular gas it runs like a champ I mean big difference , and this not only me I heard that from many other guys that noticed this kind of difference ...
