Default 4 jack stands

Looking for ideas on how to put the car on 4 stands. I have the front up but it makes the rear to low for a hydroloc jack

Most guys build a set of four gradual incline ramps made out of wood so that you can drive the car up and onto the wood ramps which raises the entire car 2-3 inches. That way after you position the front jack stands, you have enough clearance to raise the rear of the car and position rear jack stands.

Sort of like these, but a lot less expensive...

I use two jacks to lift the car. I have a small 1.5 ton that is low enough to get under the side even with the skirts and a puck. I lift the car up so I can get the larger - also low profile - under the front. I lift the front and put it on stands. I move the small jack to the rear side lifting point and lift it just enough to get the larger jack under the back. Lift that and put the stands in. When I lower it I put 2x10 blocks under the landing area or all four wheels. When I lower it, I can still get the jack under both ends. Drive off the blocks and put them away.

I know people will say drive it up on the boards but once you've spent a little time pushing the boards around when you're trying to drive up on them by yourself, you'll forget about that idea.

I built 3 step 2x12 ramps for the front and I just drive up onto a single 2x12 with the rear. Even with the car being lowered on stock bolts I can get my non-low profile jack with a 2x6 on it under the rear crossmember.

Probably not the way it SHOULD be done but i had mine on stands and the way io got it up there was...I put my low profile jack under the front driver side where the lifting spot is and jacked it up untill the whole driver side was high enough to put stands under it, then i went to the other side and did the same thing. It didnt damage anything and did the job

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...ck-stands.html

Here's how to build them. I built this system and used it and it works fine. I was skeptical at first and wondered if the wood would support the car while jacking it up. It jacked it up fine to my surprise and my delight. I have since purchased a quick lift so I have only used them one time.

If anyone is in my area and would like them I still have them. They are free if anyone wants to pick them up. If anyone is close I can deliver them as well for the cost of fuel. By close I mean within my immediate area.

There is also a company that makes the bar you saw in the link that was provided earlier. I can't find it on my computer but I'm pretty sure I have it saved at work if you want it. They are less than 100 bucks for a set of two, IIRC.

do not lift your car from the side using the jacking pucks on the rails. those 4 spots are for 4 post service use only. Pull it up on ramps and lift the entire front or rear using a length of wood to span each cross member. And I would never put jackstands under the control arms. You arent even supposed to use the arms as tie down locations.

This is just the recommended method that I do use. You can use another method at your own risk

Just curious why you say this. Do you have a legitimate reason or is it something you heard you shouldn't do?

Build yourself 4 drive-up ramps, similar to mine. You'll not have any more problem getting your jack under the car.

I just recently started making my tools for getting it jacked up.

I use 1 low profile jack, a pretty standard one, 2 jacks, chalks, and some 2x6. I coated the 2x6 in plasti dip and lay a thick shop cloth over them (thought this might keep the wood from getting cut up or anything).

Hopefully get a chance to try it out this weekend - Also found that youtube video helpful.

This is how I do it. Get one side high enough to slide the jackstand in place and slowly drop it on the stand. Move to the next spot and repeat. It will not hurt your car doing this.

This is my 'lift tool'. I used a treated 2x6, with two pads (also from 2x6 cut end pieces. It used to creak and groan, and bend just a little when lifting the car.
So, I re-inforced it with a piece of 1x6 hickory. Hickory is harder than oak.
Now, there is no more groaning of the tool, when I lift the car. I'm sure this tool, will out live me. Works great.

I later, further re inforced the tool a bit, with a band of steel around the bottom edge. This was most likely unnecessary. But, on snowy days with nothing else to do; one gets creative.....

if using the location on the rails you are not supposed to jack from that point alone. Those 4 locations are for a 4 post service lift that will lift the car all at once.
