I have seen alot of posts saying they have traveled at 160 at the track...What is the top speed of a Stock C5 anyways? I saw a commercial someone posted the other day from corvette saying up to 170
I'd say you had plenty of ***** just to get it up that fast.
Fastest I've gone in mine was 140 and that was scary enough. I'm not sure what track around here has a long enough stretch for me to really open her up that high.
The C5 coupe was tested to 175 by Car & Driver - higher than the Z06 and verts by about 8 MPH.
However, back in 02, an 01 coupe owner took his car to Bonnevile Salt Flats and did a military GPS-verified 180 MPH. He did have a cold air intake and cat-back exhaust.

Yep, the targas are reported to be faster than the Z06 due to aerodynamics. The '06s will just get there a tad quicker.
I read that the Z06's top speed is at redline in 5th gear, 171 mph or so. In 6th gear it starts to drop speed due to drag and that gear being too tall for the available horsepower. So more horsepower and you could pull through 6th gear and be alot faster.
Well, with more horsepower a lawnmower could do that but it's not really a valid compare. Stock vs stock is about all that can be compared without a zillion "what ifs".

That is correct! At Gateway International, I turned a front straight recorded speed of 173.1 mph according to the GPS (173 also according to the pit laser slip) and 177 mph according to the heads up display in a 100% stock 2004 Z06. That was at the redline in 5th gear. This was on a 50F day at 550 msl with no wind. 6th gear is just for fuel economy and shifting into 6th at 160 mph I actually started to slow slightly.
