I'm the one who voted for multiple trips to the dealership. 5 trips to be exact. 4 for the same problem.
They replaced almost everything (New PCM, 2 Fuel Pumps and sending unit, a starter, after they accidentally broke it) to stop the engine light from coming on and the occasional engine misfire. Fourth time I took it in, I gave them some more info I got from the forum. This time they found the culprit. The wiring harness connecting the fuel injector which feeds the #7 Cylinder was frayed and hitting the engine block.
So, I wouldn't say it was Chevy's fault, or poor build quality. It was the service dept. at my local dealership that caused me to go in so many times.
Glad I am moving a bit farther north so that if I have any future issues, I can take it to the dealership I'm used to and can trust a little more than this one.
Only build quality issue I had to take the car in for thus far was the wiring harness under the center console was crimped when installed at the factory.
Sorry for the length, been holding that in for a while... *whew*
I too had a sending unit/fuel pump replaced at5k miles. Bad fuel readings . Other than that never been back. the exhuast rings like jingle bells but with the a/c on all the time I'll wait till the fall to do something about it. Considering the power and its strain on the car, its holding up well.
I brought my car in to the dealer for service for a few minor things:
- Wind noise above 60MPH near the rear part of where the driver's window meets the door. They 'adjusted' the window alignment, which fixed the problem on the ride back from the dealer, but now the wind has re-appeared. Looking closely now at the weatherstripping, it looks like theres a chunk of rubber missing from the door weatherstripping, like it was a manufacturing defect. Incidentally the weatherstripping is by far the worst I have ever seen on a car and is the only quality issue I've noticed. There's glue all over the place, uneven in some places, and the quality of the weatherstipping material looks really weak. Very sloppy job. BG needs to fire the weather stripping installer, IMO.
- I've heard an intermittent clacking/ticking sound from the engine that is louder than I've heard on any other Z06. Almost definitely a noisey lifter problem. Dealer says they couldn't hear anything abnormal from the engine  I was going to suggest they get their ears checked, but instead I decided to just let it be. At least I had it checked out - if the engine fails later under warranty, that's GM's problem, not mine. I've done my fair share by having it checked by the dealer.
- Exhaust jingle very annoying. I knew this was a 'normal' problem thanks to the forum and that there is no dealer fix for it, but I decided to let the dealer check it out anyway in the remote chance they could fix it. The dealer came back after trying to find the source (which they couldn't) and said it was a 'normal Z06 noise - cannot change - no known fix).
Next time I bring it in, I will have them replace the driver's door weatherstripping.
Overall though, I'm still pleased with the quality of the Z06. Just one minor quality issue/defect isn't bad for such a complex machine, IMO.
I've had several propblems. 1 caused by the dealer and 3 by GM.
First the GM problems. My car came from the factory with the sticky brake booster issue. Dealer fixed it right the first time. After about a year the differential started leaking at the axle on the driver's side. Again the dealer fixed it right the first time. The car also came from the factory with the finish on the molding around the driver's side window peeling. Dealer fixed it right.
Now for the one that still burns me. When unloading the car off the truck, apparently, the front of the car was dropped. It cracked the rocker panels and damaged the driver's side front fender. Repairs were made, but after removing the BSM's you could see where they made the repair in a half a%$ manner. It's still visible today to the trained eye.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot the oil burning problem which I'm going to have fixed some time this summer (which does scare the %^$* out of me).
This is my 4th C5 and is without a doubt the worst quality of any of them. Having said all this though, I still love the car and plan on keeping it a long time.
GM built a great car this time....My only complaint was not enough HP, but i fixed that
The only warranty matter in 23,000 miles was a new tranny when the car was days old. I chalked that one up to mine being built the second day of Z06 production. Chevy overnighted a tranny and my total down time was 24 hours. :yesnod: :chevy My car is driven hard and tracked often and, so far, it is bullet proof (even the original stock clutch).
I took my car in Monday for new rings and am told the motor is shot and they are replacing it (9400 miles). It was burning 1 qt about every 200 miles.
How did they do replacing it? Any problems with the new motor? Any issues? I am a little bit on the edge of scared that its gonna get back to me and have all kinds of "forgot to hook that up" and "oops, left that out" problems...
