After washing my car, and wiping down the underside of the decklid, I noticed that water had made its way into the right rear drop compartment (where the inflation kit is mounted). Where can it be coming from and how do I stop it? I don't want no musky smelling machine.

Re: I am getting wet... (RaceSmith)
The water leak in my 2001 Coupe was caused by a poor seal at the two points behind each seat where the top body portion meets the lower body portion. Those two areas allowed water to seep into the two back side compartments. It took them two tries to get it fixed and both times they had to replace the carpet, felt material and all three compartment covers due to the musty odors they had. Good luck, water leaks are a real pain to locate.
Mark, I don't think I'd introduce any dye or paint to the effort on locating your the source of your leak.
First, inspect the rubber seal to see if it has a gap or tear or crimped spot. If that doesn't ID the problem, they spray the area around the trunk with a hose and see if you can spot by water tracks where the problem is.
But, yes, water leaks are hard to locate and to fix. If you can't find a quick and easy answer to the problem, you ought to just let David Fulcher and the folks at Tom Jumper figure it out for you.
You folks in the ATL area are blessed to have a Chevy service department which has a very good reputation.
Bubba suggests using a brightly colored and watery paint and pour over car. Track the stain from the inside.
Glad to help! :D

p.s. This post is not to be taken seriously. Some in the C5 crowd may not know Bubba. Bubba is the guy all the older Vette owners blame for making lousy, poorly engineered repairs on their cars at sometime in the past. Bubba is alive and well working on many of your C5's as we speak!
I am not saying that I would attempt repair myself, but I would like to determine where it is leaking myself, if possible. Clean the rubber seal good with mild soap and water. Clean the underside of the decklid where it seals with same. let dry. Wipe the sealing edge surface with vaseline, or petroleum jelly, or anything similiar. shut the decklid. open the decklid. Where the decklid sealing surface is shiny and coated with vaseline, it is probably sealing, Where no vaseline is on the decklid surface, it is probably not. I would then take it to the dealer and show them your findings, and ask them to repair. after them fixing it, I would check it the same way before leaving the dealership.

Oh, it's not hard. They're typically running their mouths about something they don't know anything about -- no matter what kind of accent they have. ;)

If you have any small kids - put them in the trunk with a flashlight while you wash the car, offer them a reward for finding the leak........ reward is getting let out of the trunk!!!!

Great idea, but make sure the kids are large enough they can't get out by climbing into the passenger compartment! ;)
