Default Newbie questions

Hi all. New to the forum.

I am a current 02 M3 Coupe driver looking to get a Z06. I have found quite a few but would like some pricing advice.

I found a 2001 MY/Blk w/ 4000 miles. They are asking $44k Car looks perfect. Has StoneGuard or ClearBra installed.

Also found a 2002 TR/Blk w/ 4000 miles. They are asking $46k. Going to see and drive tomorrow.

Do these prices seem fair? Should I be able to get the 02 any lower?

One more ?. What are people paying for brand new 02's. I have seen a few posts about paying considerably less than MSRP.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

THANKS!

My advice would be to contact the forum's supporting dealers and ask them what they've got and what they can do. You should be able to get a good price on a new '02. If faced with an '01 or an '02, all things equal, you should try to get the '02 .. the HUD, extra horsepower, etc makes it more attractive. Also, some of the '01s had oil consumption issues, and this is apparently fixed in the '02.

I agree with silversport! You can get in a NEW '02 for $46K:) with GMAC financing at 1.9% for 36 mos or 3.9$ for 60 mos. Also agree with him on the major changes made on the Z fm '01-'02.....I would highly recommend a used '02 over a new '01 even!

Good luck, let us know what you end up with!!!!

Thanks for the replies (and emails). I ended up finding a local dealer (about 5 miles away) willing to find me a new MY and even-trade it for my M3. I left the dealer Saturday at 2:30pm. Got a call about an hour later just to ask if I had any questions and if there was anything else they could help me with. Then another hour later, I got a call that my salesman had located 4 new TR's and 1 new MY so far!!

Not bad if you ask me. I bought the M for what a Z06 would have cost at the time. Now after 7 months, I can trade the used M in on a GORGEOUS MY 2002. I'll miss the refinement of the M, but I'm also a power freak and love attention!

I am soooo psyched!! Do not have anything signed yet but it all looks good. Will let everyone know how the transaction goes.

Anyone have a list of things to check? I have noticed the door and window seals on Z06's seam to be sloppy. Any other points on the car to check before signing the papers?

Thanks!!!
:) :)

awsome! sounds like you are on your way!

I was disappointed GM didn't offer a rear compartment cover-I also got basic car mats:( BUT...guess it's all for you to buy after the sale.

I wish I had looked over the body a bit better on mine-found a small ding in the hood (had 17 miles on it).

Got it!!!! Out with the M, in with the Z. So far it's awesome!! Everything I hoped for and more! Must sleep now but will get pics and a review of delivery up ASAP!!

A question for those of you using the Z as a daily driver. Can the Z be parked out in the open without a problem? I can just see a crowd of teenagers gathering around it. Hell, if I see one I would probably gather around it!
What have your experiences been? Any problems with vandals?

G'night!

Depends on your metro area. In South Florida where I live, supercars are a dime a dozen, so no worries for the most part (though I still kinda worry). If you have Lambos, Ferraris, Vipers, Porsches and Vettes all over the place where you live your Vette won't draw too much attention. If not, might want to keep an eye on it just for a little while and see what happens - it IS much more noticeable than an M3 that just looks like a 3 series to the uninformed thug (can't mistake a Vette for anything else).

If you park it WAY out, you avoid door dings but potentially attract the wrong kind of attention.

Some people had major issues in Vegas with Vettes and Porsches getting vandalized by gang initiation rites but I don't know what it's like in your area.

I usually just take it to places where I know there will be other nice cars and park in amongst the other cars (and hope I don't get dinged). I would rather live with a door ding or two than to have someone try to vandalize or steal it.

Bottom line though, if you want to drive/enjoy the car regularly, you really have no control over what happens to it. So I say just enjoy it, live for the day, and remember it's just a car that can be fixed if something happens to it (trying to convince myself here as well...).

One last question, is there ANY comparison in performance coming from an M3 to the Z06? I guess you're still breaking her in but I'm just curious to get the opinion of a former M3 owners as I have a friend who has one and thinks it's pretty fast...
