The purchase and installation paperwork for the VR came with the car and I guess they earned their $200.00 for the install. Still should be screened from the manufacturer.

Looking forward to seeing your photo update.
Here you go BBC. I got the scoop out of a parts bin at a swap meet for $5. And the filter/intake sits at least 2 ft off the ground. so much for water issues. Most folks probably thought it was a piece of junk. I didnt!

Very neatly done on your part. My filter is directly in front of the air bridge near the top of the radiator support. I'm sure you know that the VR intake openings are located next to the fog lights. Your intake scoop sits lower than the VR.

The scoop does. But it doesn't have the suction power of the VR. It scoops the air in rather than suck it in. I'll consede the VR has more suction power and I'll live with that. I guess what I was trying to say, clumsily, is that I don't have the same risks.

Darryl, does that scoop attach also to the shroud, I assume on the underside?

Best mod I've ever had and I've used a few aftermarket air filters. The vararam is the best gains and only real CAI there is.

No problem. I admire your innovative way to supply cold (outside) air to the system. You DO have the advantage that should you submerge the intake in water it has opportunity to exit the system rather than be forced on through to the engine as it is not directly connected to the filter mechanism.

People keep saying the VR system "sucks" the air into the system. At stop that is true. Once you are in forward motion at speed with the car the air is "forced" into the system. That is the performance advantage. You correctly point out that, if submerged, the fluid has no place to escape the system and could create a costly problem.

As the floor pan of the car is lower than the VR intake openings I think I would be aware of water level approaching danger limit.

Good job on your system.

I actually bolted the scoop in place at the opening of the shroud. My original idea for the scoop was the wall folder option from Office Depot. I found this part by accident at a swap meet. But the plastic folder is a good Plan B. There have been others here on the forum that went that route with no problem. And it's a cheap DIY project to get cold air to the Blackwing,Haltech,K&N,Volant, etc. VR may be "the best", but I'll settle for second best with this setup.

Don't drive through standing water of unknown depth. Other than that enjoy your car in all weather. Cool damp air makes horsepower.
