Are they worth the money and do they make that big of a difference on the feel of the shift? Also what are the pros and cons between the B and M ripper and the MGW?
When I bought my FRC it had a B&M in it, and while it's not a bad shifter at all, it was way to notchy for me, I now have an MGW with a c6 **** and it feels awesome! I was running the MGW with the anti-venom mod for a long time and pulled out the washer 2 weeks ago and decided to keep it that way! I'll be ordering MGW's new lower shift box soon as I can tell mines worn out pretty bad. My buddy has a stock shifter in his z06 and I personally think it feels like absolute crap, wayy too high and the throws are 10 miles apart lol, these make a world of difference
I just picked up a C5 Z06 and spent a ton of time researching, and from what I saw, most people swear by the MGW shifter. I went ahead and went that route. I haven't gotten to drive the car yet or install it, since I'm deployed, but I went with the whole setup. There's a short shifter, which is what you're wanting, and they offer two *****. I bought the race ****, but they also have a gripper that is a ball type. I also got the lower box, because MGW recommends replacing it because it really isn't gonna hurt, and on top of that, you don't want to have to get in there twice I guess. But it isn't necessary, and there are TONS of people who haven't switched it out and they're just as happy. Good luck.
By the way, I can vouch that MGW are great to deal with.

For me I tried the MGW B&M I myself like the stock C6Z06 Shifter with the cut down Handle we have to forum vendors that sell this style. I like the feel of the stock one more then the others. Here are the 2 I was talking about.
1) TPS 427 SHIFTER
2) RSD SNAP SHIFTER
Both of these are great shifters and I think they are cheaper price wise then the MGW & B&M and they will last a long time
OP, can you go to a local meet or something and see if anyone has short shifters installed? That's ideal of course, but not always possible. Just pour through the threads and see what your take of the general opinion is.
I switched to a B&M and the C6 shift ****, it has a positive feel, as far as notchy with Royal Purple in the gear box feels pretty good. Stock shiftier was vague in comparison so I'm a happy man.

I went the TPS 427 SHIFTER route and I am VERY pleased with it. Shorter throw than the stock C5 shifter, slight angle/lean is more comfortable, and still shifts almost as smoothly as the stocker. I've also driven a C5 with the B&M and I felt it was too notchy feeling for a daily driver...it's all personal preference.

I also had an MGW for a little while but I prefer the smooth shifts of a C6 shifter. I went with an RSD Snap Shifter over the TPS 427 to get a new box...that makes a big difference especially if you have a Z06. Z06 has solid mounts on the shifter box, which can cause a rattling noise.
Mine came with a MGW and it's notchy to me but I've gotten used to it. The one thing about it is you have to really be conscious of going into second or you'll miss it. It's because of the notchiness (is that a word) and it feels like it's in second but not quite there.

Why don't you just replace the bushings instead of the shift box? The box itself doesn't wear out that I've heard of, but the bushings do.
X 2. I went with the MGW and couldn't be happier. The shifts are tight and precise. No missed shifts here.
When driving my fathers C5Z the throws seem longer and exaggerated at least compared to my MGW. I think the shorter, stiffer throw adds a little bit more to the driving experience.
I have the B&M Precision Sport shifter and I love it. What I've found is important when installing this shifter is you need to align your shifter box properly and you need to dump the rubber shifter box bushings and use the provided solid ones. There will be no rattle because these have the isolated shifter. Unlike the old B&M rippers (no longer available) which were similar to the Hurst. They rattled like crazy if the shifter box was solid mounted.
My shifts are smooth and precise with a slight increase in effort. I topped it off with a TWM shifter **** reducing some of that effort due to the weight of these ***** (1.5 lbs). They are made from solid billet stainless steel and I am convinced, are the highest quality shift ***** available.
Those two items together have given me an excellent shifting package.

I agree with the new box, I took mine and modded it a little on the front of the box it has the plastic cover that is held on with 2 screws well I made one out of alum. I then pressed a sealed bearing in the cover piece. Then on the other side I bored out the housing and put another sealed bearing in it then put a rubber seal on the end. Now it moves so smooth I like it
Tho' I have great appreciation for many of the aftermarket shifters, my Z06 shifter never bothered me except for the throw distance. I removed 3/4" from the top and another 3/4 from the bottom of th shaft. I'm very happy with the result.
I personally made the transition from a HURST to a brand new MGW w/ new shifter box.
One of the best investments i've made yet. On my HURST I had 2 washers for the antivenom mod and it still didn't feel right. Installed my MGW, no antivenom required for me. it's perfect for my taste.
