Default Ignition cleaning gone wrong?

So after having intermittent issues with my 2001 corvette not starting I saw on this thread that the burnt connections in the ignition could be cleaned, well I managed to get the whole ignition piece out, and took off the green cover and cleaned the connections. After reconnecting it and plugging the connections back in and then connecting the battery, the door open, the security light is blinking and beeping, when i put the key in, i cant even turn it now. When I took out the ignition i never turned the key to on position is that an issue with that now? What did I do wrong? Also I noticed that the cable that connects to the front where the key goes is actually disconnected from the plugs... but that's just the guide light for the key right? Can anyone help me out, before i just say **** it and take the whole ignition to the dealership haha.

Did you make sure it went back together EXACTLY as it came apart? When I cleaned my ignition switch a small piece managed to fall out without me seeing it until I stood up and saw it fall on the floor. Check Bill Curlee's thread on the ignition switch rebuild and match yours up to the pictures to make sure it all went back together as it was supposed to. It's very easy to make a mistake.
