I spoke with a , lets say friend today about members here on the forum that do not own a corvette ...
If so why in the world would a person do such a stupid act .... Who is not a real owner or will we ever know ...
"A stupid act" ?? sounds a bit harsh, can't an aspiring Vette owner be allowed to join and ask questions.
Maybe this is a great way for non owners to surface
I hope so

Join a Corvette forum, Gives them a chance to know about the car and see a lot of nice pictures..
Mr.Bill
That's what I did before I got mine. However in the time as a member but not an owner I never claimed to have one. My father did and has since before I was even a thought. I just lurked, never posted much, and just absorbed as much info as possible.

But as far as being a member, not an owner but claiming to be an owner....
One might beg the question, why do Corvette clubs offer non-owner memberships?....Because it's the love for the car I would say
I own a Corvette but I'm also a member of the MR2 forum and I don't currently own one... I used to own one years ago and i'd like to again some day though. And that's a good place to look for them for sale.

I wold hope so. Best place to find info before a purchase, is to ask the people who have the experience, are they happy with their decision and would they do it again?
Im a Mustang owner on a Corvette forum. Does that make you mad?
LOL!! I'm a Mustang AND a Corvette owner!
Also a Honda Civic and a T-Bucket owner/builder and a former MGTD kit car and a Ford Explorer owner. I'm on a drag car forum but don't own a dedicated drag car. I joined most of those forums before I bought the car to not only educate myself on the car and its issues and yes, one time I elected not to buy so I guess I was on the forum but didn't own one and was better off for it.
I also want to check out the forum and its members - kind of checking out the board just to see what the attitude is. How many forums have you visited that are dominated by a few know-it-alls with huge egos who shout down anything they don't agree with, or have little patience with new members who ask a common question, or belittle those that are not as experienced, or push back just a little too hard if one sticks to their opinion, engage in a form of class warfare, or offer superficial answers and if they're too dense to understand those then go somewhere else. Check out the H.A.M.B. hot rod forum to see an example. The C7 board here was pretty out of control there for a while. And watch the testosterone level soar when a truly knowlegable woman weighs in - LOL some guys can't handle that.
Either be helpful in return and state what you definitely know for a fact or share your experience so others can benefit. Make friends. Offer to share what you have. Don't criticize. Every group has their 10 % who don't conform or need to pretend to be something they're not and they can easily be identified and ignored if you wish.
Why should we care if someone wishes to 'lurk' before buying?
I follow a Cadillac forum (yeah my wife has a DHS) because I'm considering a CTS V, and I want to go in with my eyes open. I'm guessing intelligent wanna be Vette buyers use the same logic, besides, I love sharing my knowledge with them.
Well much to my surprise guys , I guess I had know idea that there was a large amount of members here that were not owners ... And yes it is ok ...
It just seems strange to me that if someone were not an owner that a guy would say this might look good or that might look bad to me you have no right but so be it ....
I will mark this down as me being a new 2 year member and that I have now been schooled by you none corvette owners , My Bad ... Have a great day everyone

So you have to own a Corvette to have an opinion on what looks good or bad on other Corvettes? Geez. I didnt know the world worked that way.
If that where the case, Why is there so many **** talkers towards Mustangs and Camaros on this very forum?
I don't care if someone owns a corvette or not. I expect that everyone on here is at least interested in them and many were previous or future owners. I lurked on the C5 forum when I only had a C4 and was thinking about a C5. I may sell my C4, but I expect I will still look at the C4 posts since I like the C4's and have had 5 of them and may be able to contribute.
I am more interested in what is contributed. I like that so many (owners or not) can share their experience and opinions. I especially like that so many members provide information that helps out someone. (pictures and tutorials are great)
I don't care for the attitude that some have to nit pick and run down others, but I usually tend to ignore that stuff.
Overall, I think this is a great forum and a lot of great people on it.
I had a Vette in Italy and didn't know there were such places to interact with other enthusiasts. I finally joined Vette forums since it seemed that was the only place to find the real facts about recalls, best mods and kill stories. Yeah, I know CF doesn't condone kill stories, but it was one of the most visited forums on a competing Corvette web presence.
There was a post by a non-owner on 6/1/13 by a 17 year old planning on buying a Vette....A few others chimed in on that post about how they came to the forum first to get info before they bought the car. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-corvette.html
I think the kind of people James is talking about are people who "pose" as if they do own one but do not....kind of like the guys at work I hear bench racing sometimes who obviously do not have a clue what they are talking about. I have seen some post in the past where you could tell they did not have a clue...

Personally, I don't care if you're a poser or an expert. If you have something valuable to add I'll listen/read, if not then I'll ignore. It doesn't bother me in the least. I have to say that I think the larger percentage of members on this forum provide great contributions, the others are pure entertainment.
I'm thinking OP was more addressing "posers" than "lurkers or pre-buyers"
But, my experience is you always meet Posers somewhere, you know the guys that always has the bigger better story, better this better that, done this, done that. True/false - who knows, maturity and experience can usually tell ya...and thats just in real life, so with the far reach of the interwebz (and the anonymity) you can only imagine the broad spectrum of people on any given board.
I for one wish I found this forum before buying my C5, mighta went Z06 instead, but I think I did alright.
IMHO this is still the best corvette specific forum out there and the combined knowledge of all the members is unparalleled.

When I was a teenager in the 80's I could not find enough books/magazines to read about Corvettes.
If the internet had been available to me when I was a teenager I would have been ALL over this forum reading, and looking at cool cars's I wished I had.
I see nothing wrong with non corvette owners being here looking.
I don't think the issue was with people who don't have Vettes being here and participating, I think the issue was people who don't have them acting like they do. But as always I could be wrong.
