Does anyone make a 'trigger' style shift **** for the A4 shifter? I'd rather go that route than the 'button on top' style or the "push down the whole shifter" style ().
By "trigger style" I mean similar shape / grip to the stock shift ****, but the button pulls in like a trigger on the front side of the **** instead of down on the top.
Just a visual reference for what I'm talking about. This one's off of my father's '06 Cadillac XLR. The overall mechanics of it are the same (pushes down on a rod so the shift arm can be moved). He wanted it back on the car so he could take a drive, otherwise I would've gone over it some more.
If I get a chance to this weekend I'll see about pulling off the shift **** on my '01 to make some comparisons. Unlike the horrible 'giant staple' our shift ***** are held in place by, the XLR uses a allen head set screw.

I am assuming you tried the **** from your Dad's XLR on your C5 and it was the wrong size threads or just did not work - correct? I've seen some write-ups for the C6 manual tranny ***** being put on the C5 but don't recall a write-up for the auto tranny ****. Would be interesting to see if it has been done. Unfortunately when it comes to the A4 shift ****, the aftermarket has not produced much in the way of options.

Haven't tried it yet. I'll be swapping in some Corbeau's this weekend so I'll take advantage of mucking around to give it a try. It would definitely be darn cool if it just 'fits on there'... then I've just gotta have my dad not notice his shifter's missing!
Yeah iirc you have to swap a few other things if you want to keep PRND321 since the C6 assembly on goes till PRNDS
If I wasn't afraid of damaging something I'd poke around on the shift **** from the XLR some more than just removing it. Cadillac's infamous for their "thousand dollar repairs", and I really don't want to have to hunt down a new shift **** for the out-of-production XLR. As it is having to repair the cup-holder cover on the car is going to cost an arm and a leg if we go the "just buy it" route.
If someone had a beat up C6 shift **** I wouldn't be opposed to pulling it apart to see if there's some simple way to modify it onto the stock C5 shift arm.

There are vendors that sell an adaptor and you can install any **** you want, I opted for a round **** and all you have to do is push it down to change gears.

I like the button approach as opposed to the 'push the whole ****' version. Part of why I'm looking into this is I like the grip shape of the stock shift **** and the one in the XLR, just would like to do something different.
