The other day when I was out walking my dog, a guy drove up in a spiral grey coupe. It was stock except for a tacky wing on the back. Being a fellow Corvette driver I decided to strike up a conversation so I walked over and said "Nice car, what year is it?". To which he replied "It's a 2004. It's a Z". With a surprised tone, I responded "Oh! I have a 2000 coupe", and walked away.

Thats just sad...... but funny !
When I was home in N.S a few weeks ago. A dealer had a 2009 Grandsport on the lot. It had a 427 logo on the hood....
I sooooo wanted to play with the dealer about it, but my brother said we had to go... I would have loved to hear him tell me its a 427 Grandsport...
I cant tell you how many people at some of the big car shows say there cars have 500 HP on there c5 coupe. Then I ask what they have done. There reply "headers, cold air intake, and cat back system". I then tell them I have a C5 Z06 and there is no way they could have that much power as I don't even have that much with the similar mods that I have. Then the have nothing to say or they say something stupid like, that's what I was told. I don't understand why people have to lie and say they have way more power then they do. Especially at a car show where there are so many people that will know that the are full of it.

You reminded me....
A fellow co worker had a 2002 WS6 Trans AM.
He told me he had about 450HP. (325HP stock).
I asked him what he did to the car, and what his dyno was.
He said Intake, exhaust, and a few other little things, and no dyno.
He said that when he bought the intake it says on the box... 40 HP gain, Exhaust 50HP gain.... etc...etc...
He added up all the numbers from the boxes and got almost 450 HP...
I about fell off my chair laughing.
I don't think he was happy when I explained how it really works.
During my recent alternator woes as I was frequenting the parts house one of the guys behind the counter says "yea, I have a 2001 50th Anniversary convertible Z06 C5 also". I really wanted to rip this one apart but being totally flustered over my charging situation...I just laughed and let it go.

This could be true, but they only made them in autos that year.

Yes, I do think he said it was an auto...
He also told me that he needed to change out his heater core because his passenger side floor board is always full of water. I asked if he smelled anti-freeze or if his cooling system was ever low and he replied no, why would it be?
And this is what we have to rely on to sell us correct parts. Why I always walk in with a part number. Absolutely pitiful.
I know this is the C5 section but I have to throw this one out there... I can't count the number of times people ask me if my vert is a Z06 and they look so disappointed when I say no.

I had a buddy that had a big mouth like that. Everything he owned had to be better than anyone else's, no matter if they were exactly the same in reality.
People can be funny and disappointing at the same time. Weird world.

Lol - that happened to me last Saturday. Two young guys asked after complimenting the car. Funny
Coming on base last week, I had a young Security Forces Airman, look in my car a bust out laughing because my coupe was an automatic. After he handed my ID back, I asked him what he drove? He answered with a smug grin, "my roommate has a mustang". I smiled, winked and asked, how's that working for you? Then I drove off.
You gotta watch out for those MSG guys. They're kind of screwy!
I've been thinking about removing my Caravaggio rear spoiler and adding one of those "Z06 rear wings" to my convertible for a long time. I heard there is a 50 HP gain!

I have a story like this almost every day. either BS from owners or unrealistic knowledge of Corvettes. I stopped to get something to eat today, One of the workers, a guy about 25 or 30 said, That's a beautiful Z06. I said it wasnt a Z06, the next words out of his mouth was Oh its a C6.. I said NO.. its a C5 , he response was Oh !.
