CLB or LMC5. Is there a difference and which is best.
From what I have read the LMC5 is the way to go and very easy to install. It's what I chose and very happy with it. The LMC5 installs in the right side toe panel and the other requires removing some panels under the speedometer .
Once you have the GMVIS look for the section called CLAIM HISTORY.
In that section look for references to V1145 and/or 04006. If you see references to the word "REPROGRAM", then the PCM has had the fuel shutoff set to 2mph and you are therefore exposed to the vehicle becomming stranded by it should the battery ever go low or the column lock motor burping. Additionally the variation of the recall service done after Feb 2006 called for the installation of the GM K Harness in series between the lock motor and the BCM. Those devices have a notoriously high rate of failure that would bring on the 2mph fuel shutoff. I would DEFINITELY install either a CLB or LMC5 to protect yourself from the 2mph fuel shutoff stranding you.
I ordered the GMVIS for my Corvette.
My son who has a 2001 Z06 already had his. Can you tell me what it means when it shows: There is a job card date (2008) and a job card number, then ZFAT-Field Action recall, then V1153-04006-Install harness kit-automatics only.
It's a manual transmission. Why does it says automatic???
Thanks.
My son bought the car 2 years ago so we would have to ask the seller. I am attaching copy to show others what a GMVIS looks like.
Probably safer to install a LMC5 at this point.
The column does not lock so it appears the first service was done but never recorded.
We will install the LMC5 and be done with it.
Thanks for all the help.
If you don't mind getting stranded by either a locked column or the 2mph fuel shutoff (you will eventually) when your not close to home, then DON't install one.
