Default Borla Stinger Drone Fix?

There has been a lot of threads on Borla drone. I have searched for a solution and short of buying a new exhaust, not any solutions. I bought my 2003 M6 Vert a couple of years back. It came with the Borla Stingers. Previous C5s I have had I had installed Corsa Touring (too tame) and Corsa Pace Car (perfect - no drone). After 2 years of the Stinger drone I needed to do something at it really started getting to me. Anyway, did not want to spend a lot of money on a new exhaust so I went on a search for a solution as I liked the "tone" of Borla, just not the drone. (Disclaimer - this worked on my car, not sure it will work on all). I decided to gamble on Car Chemistry Inserts. They are about 100 bucks from Summit so a cheap(er) experiment. I got the 2 1/2 dia 2 disk system. Car Chemistry has been discussed on the Forum but I could not find anyone that tried them so I thought I would five it a try. They are not a drop in. I had to do some sanding of the inserts and some modifications so they fit into the H pipe:

I shortened the pipe to 5" so I sat in straight flow in the H pipe. I had to grind some of the flange weld in the H pipe so the insert would slide in snug. The insert sat flush with the end of the exhaust flange:

I decided to bolt the insert in so I could pull to try different diameter holes in the rear restrictor and toss it if caused performance or noise issues.
Report: This has knocked down the drone 75-80% (subjective). I also has knocked down the noise level some but kept the Borla tone (subjective). I am not a racer but taking the car out for spirited runs I feel no performance changes (again subjective). I am sure it causes some back pressure so there has to be some loss in HP but it still has to be better than the stock exhaust system. Just wanted to share!

hmmmm...very interesting...never heard of these either. Not knowing the outcome you could have trashed your system. If it were me, I would have opted for a used set of Corsas...around $650 or so now...maybe less. But I like your ingenuity.

The first catback I bought about 9 years ago, was Stinger two tips. After adding a partition, the drone wasn't too bad, but later mods made them way too loud. Interesting solution, but looks restrictive. I only paid $250 for the used Stingers, which I ended up selling for $450 a couple of years later. Look at a quality used catback. I've bought 3 different sets, and all only needed minor cleaning. Borla, Corsa, GHL, Magnaflow are my favorites.

You had the solution...you know the solution. its the Corsa Indy Pace car. Its the only system I know that got the GM seal of approval and a GM part number. I do understand not wanting to spend the money to buy into this Corsa system. But spending any money on an alternative only adds to the cost of a system you will eventually buy into, or deal with the drone.
There have been many pretenders, many supporters of other systems.
When I talked with Corsa sound engineers back in 1997, they told me you can not have all three perfect sounding exhaust tones, great idle, great wide open throttle and great cruise with no drone. You can only have two of the three. Many people " Think " that great idle is very important, but most do not understand that an aggressive idle causes a drone cruise.. AS I've said a thousand times on this forum.. everything is a trade off. For those wanting a drone free cruise, Corsa is the way to go. The problem with the other manufacturers is they appeal to those wanting more aggressive idle and they make the sale in the hope that the buyer will accept the drone as being just an aggressive exhaust. No one has ever complained about resonance or drone with a Corsa system because it just does not exist. while every other exhaust system has some people saying there is no drone and others say the very same system has too much drone. This 180 degree contradiction is just members living in denial of the drone. No one wants to say the system they bought was less than desirable after a few weeks. everyone likes that open header sound but it gets old very quickly. We are talking about relatively stock LSX engines without headers or an after market cam.
If a manufacturer tells you they can deliver great idle, and aggressive WOT and have no drone, they are not being honest with you. Corsa sacrifices great idle for absolutely no drone at cruise and its guaranteed.

I have the Corsa system, I've had it for 12 years. it doesn't owe me a penny I could sell it for 600/700 dollars and buy anything I want. I've heard them all and felt them all. There is nothing out there that allows me the same level of enjoyment and still be able to take a two hours drive in that cruise RPM range where drone would be a problem with other systems.

I have Stingers and LG LT's and the sweet spot is around 2000-2250 for nice droneless travel.
