Car is being flatbedded to Royal Chevrolet in Richmond, VA as I type this. Car is a '99 and I bought it in 2003 with 9,500 on the odometer. Ten years later, it is showing 98,000 miles. Ever since I've owned it, the DIC shows "Service column lock" (or something like that) and I've always just hit the reset button and everything was fine. This morning, it waits until I'm and hour and a half from home and locks up solid. It told me to pull the key and wait ten seconds which didn't work, of course. I tried pulling the number 33 fuse. I tried disconnecting the negative battery terminal for five minutes. Nothing worked.
How badly can I expect to be bent over for this issue? To my knowledge, the car never received the factory recall solution. Seriously thinking of getting it fixed, having it detailed, and dumping it. My wife thinks I'll change my mind, but I'm not sure.
the dealer is gonna hose you for a few hundred bucks and it won't be a perma fix most likely....I bought the original CLB from C5 Solutions back in the day for $40...I think the one Corvettes of Houston sells is the same one basically...installed it when the column was locked although people on here swear it can't be done....no issues since....best $40 I ever spent.
Did I mention that I rode the short bus in school? It's cool. I'm kicking myself pretty hard over this too.
Sorry, but someone had to say it and I ain't known for being delicate...
I believe the LMC5 and the unlocker unit would have gotten you out of the situation even though you're locked. Call 'em and verify that, order it, have the car delivered to your home and fix it when the LMC5 and the unlocker arrive.

I have read conflicting reviews on the LMC5 as some people need something different than others etc...I dunno...gotta do what feels good for you..
the CLB was plug and play no drama, no calling for tech support..I did it in 20 minutes in a parking lot. In fact I still have the cig lighter adaptor I used to unlock the column...it came with the CLB...itis still in the left rear compartment of my C5
