1 qt. low...thanks !!...just purchased it last week and put around 250 miles or so on it..."my low oil"
came on but I was a block from Pep Boys...put a quart in but now I I'll have to keep an eye on it...hope I didn't buy an "oil consumer"....and when I was driving it the car kept stalling out and I got a "wait 10 seconds and remove the key"...I remember reading about this issue on the forum...hope this Vette isn't a lemon !!
Check your oil with the dipstick, make sure it's correct and set a trip counter to zero. Now you can track the consumption. A quart per 1000 miles is acceptable. Maybe not what you want to hear but just about any vehicle manufacturer will allow that much and call it normal.
It may take a couple driving cycles for the low oil light to go off. At least on mine that's true.
Thanks again !!...the hardest part was trying to read the dip stick accurately...I've seen this issue here on the forum...will try to lightly sand the dipstick and see if it's easier to read...my daily driver a 2005 Ford Escape with 256,000 doesn't burn a DROP...I hear possibly changing the PCV valve might help but this is more of a "ring" issue here I think !!...thanks again !!
Happened to me once and sure enough I was low. Added one quart and the dipstick showed full and the warning went away. So about a quart low should trigger the warning.

Thanks !!...I reset the trip odometer with the oil level full...I'll see how many miles it takes for the LOQ warning to come back on if at all !!
I do not have the factory column lock installed so I assume a previous owner brought it in for the recall...with it removed AND the "remove the key..." Warning present can it maybe still not start and leave me stranded ??...I have learned more about this car in the last week than I thought possible !!...so do I still need a CLB or LMC5 installed ??
I get the low oil warning thing too even when I know it is full. Changed the sensor, still get it. It started after my head/cam swap and dyno tune so I am guessing heat from the headers may have did something to the wiring.
A tip someone once gave me was to keep an extra quart of oil in the trunk. So if you're ever out driving and you get the low oil light you can just pull over and add the extra quart. A $8 quart of oil is cheap insurance against all the problems that could occur form running low on oil. I'll usually change the oil shortly after.

My '00 had the excessive oil consumption issue and if I recall correctly, it seems that the low oil message came on when the level dipped below a quart low. Everything else on the car worked fine (i.e. sensor, car level, etc.).
Thanks for the info !!...I'm currently in training learning the intricacies of the Boeing 787 so when I'm done I can devote more time learning about my Vette...just to much "TMI" right now...kinda funny that for GM's "Flagship" sports car their Engineering Staff can't come up with a definitive fix for this issue buti guess for GM it's a cash cow since a fair number of owners don't know the difference between a box end and an open end wrench !!...well, I'm going to try to do a load test on my battery but taking a quick peak at the battery last night it seems new(AC Delco Professional). Between possible oil consumption issues and this column lock I hope I won't be spending more time fixing than driving...I really don't want to have to yank the engine out and replace some rings..."back in the day" the only thing I had to worry about was keeping my 1970 Z28's valve lash correct...LOL !!...now you seem knowledgable about Corvettes...are you a professional tech or just a "hobbyist " ??
Thanks !!....great that you have become a what we say in the airline industry...a "Subject Matter Expert" !!...well I load tested my battery yesterday and the needle didn't deflect at all even with a max load so the battery isn't the cause...next thing is to buy an LMC5 as you suggest...and monitor my oil consumption over the next few days !!...once again thanks !!
Now after reading about how "critical" battery voltage is in making the electronics in this thing operate correctly and I'm assuming it's within the BCM why couldn't the BCM be "modified" to operate at a lower voltage...say 10.0 instead of 12.5 VDC which I believe is the "magic number"...I guess the BCM's schematic is "proprietary information"...a sharp electronics engineer could probably figure it out...I do know a few from Boeing....LOL !!!

Have to agree with that statement. I got tired of trying to read the dipstick correctly as it was very difficult to see the oil line on the stick. I ended up drilling 4 small holes in the dipstick and I can EASILY tell where the oil level is now. A quick, cheap, easy mod to make this task a lot easier and more reliable. I used a very small drill bit and took my time.

I'm a hobbyist so to speak on the C5 but I am more than a little knowledgeable about the C5 Column Lock problem. That was the first issue I had to face when I bought my C5 which was less that 4 years old with only 4,824 miles on it. Dealer was totally helpless on the problem but that didn't stop him from charging a totally extortionist amount to not be able to fix the problem. So my goal since that time has been to understand the system to the fullest extent possible and to make that knowledge available to other C5 owners..
You sir have never made a truer statement. I want to say thanks to you in a public manner and to let you know how blessed many of us are because of your assistance and knowledge. I appreciate your assistance and ongoing efforts to help all.

Make sure you do not check the oil level when the engine is cold or you will not get an accurate reading. You must check it several minutes after driving long enough to warm the oil up.
