I used that K&N filter throughout a complete oil change. When I took it off there was not one ding on it. I made sure I checked because it seems the last time we talked about this I had just put it on.
It "may" hit stuff if you have your car lowered, I don't know. But here's the deal.
These cars were built a certain way with a certain height. If you lower it, you're making alterations the car wasn't designed for and are asking for problems.

They were built so you could adjust the ride height yourself and reduce the enormous fender gaps after they came off the rail cars.
The K&N filter with the nut sits lower than the oil pan.
If you know how to drive your car lowered you shouldn't have any problems scraping anything down below. JS
zzzzzzzzz, had no choice but to drive over a plastic, bolted down speed bump, at less than walking speed, with numerous cars queued behind me and no way to turn off.
Anyone that fits a K&N HP-1007 with the added nut is asking for trouble.
I've managed to remove every filter over the past 30 odd years without that additional and unnecessary nut.
Has anyone ever experienced engine issues/failure that could be directly attributed to an oil filter? I have used every brand out there over the past 32 years of driving, and have never noticed anything out of the ordinary. Many of my vehicles going well over the 100,000 mile mark (not all miles put on by me, but high mileage nonetheless).

Thank you for confirming what I mentioned earlier! Secondly, the Mobil1 filter is also longer than an AC Delco filter. It's about the same overall length of a K&N.

Just curious.
Good Point!!!
Just use a brand name filter (except Fram), and change it regularly....
I used it once, but with all the speed bumps in my town, I don't anymore, the nut built into the oil can hangs down just low enough to possibly hit a high speed bump and bend or smash or rip out your oil filter.. Not a good scene to happen in the streets.
always mobil-1 filter and oil. I do use the K&N air filter.
Can't go wrong with this, I use Mobil-1 filter, but I think all of you have made solid good recommendations. All of you guys have a ton of experience and this is a great place for this very kind of information, from the very people who have been doing it for all of the past 15 years now with the C5.
Personally I love mine, just as it is, I was offered a huge and good price at the Chevy dealer as a trade in, but I have it as I want, there's nothing more I can or want to do to it but drive the wheels off it now.
First of all I always use the Napa Gold. It is the Wix high performance filter. I never have a problem removing it without a nut welded to it. I tried a K&N once on my lowered car. The nut was scraped and dented, never again.
