What do you guys think about caliper covers? I have asked others and it's running about 50/50. Some like them and some don't. They are advertised to help keep the rotors clean and the brake dust to a minimum. Also, the ad states that it helps to keep the brakes run cooler. I am just unsure whether to put the $200 into something that may be useless.
See some Corvettes come in on trade with them on...it isnt one day before the dealership removes them to my relief...they look oversized for the car. Paint stock calipers and be done.
IMHO I think they look pretty cheesy! And ~$200 for a piece of plastic to cover a caliper is just something I would not spend my $$$ on. Powdercoat or paint yourself if you ask me.
The MGP covers help to minimize brake dust on the wheels. They're made from 6061-T6 aerospace aluminum, not cheap ABS plastic, so they're suppose to act like a heat sink against the calipers to help keep them cooler. I liked them when I had my C4. Just like any other aftermarket options, it's all about personal preferences. If you like how they look, go for it. It's your car...enjoy it.
Here's the old MGP caliper cover discussion thread when I had my C4:
