Yes I think the C5 is timeless, but honestly, every corvette generation is desirable except the C4. I think the FRC and Z06 will be the most sought after from a collector standpoint.
"Every Corvette generation is desirable except the C4"? You should have probably included the words: "In my opinion". Because it's certainly not factual.
The C5 saved Corvette, it was revolutionary but I can't say it is timeless beautiful like a 63 split window. It is a good looking car for sure.[IMG][/IMG]
I just purchased my first Vette and after months of contemplating C5/C6 I like the power of the C6 Z06 but kept finding myself drawn to the sleeker styling of the C5. In the end I compromised and bought a Lingenfelter C5. Now the big thing that dates my car is the cassette player! Didn't they have CDs in 99?

I'm curious, I feel that the C5 styling has aged very well. I would say it is one of the best aging vehicles styling wise from the 90s. When people ask the year of my 98 I always get a reaction like no way its that old. In my opinion the C4 really shows its age. Do you guys feel the C5 will be timeless. Or now that we have a new generation vette, the C5 will start looking out dated?
I think the C5 has aged amazingly well. Although, I feel all Corvettes have. Not quite as much the C4 in my opinion and the C6 still remains to be seen how it ages although I guess it will age pretty well. My dad just bought a final year C6 60th anniv GS vert that was driven in the pre-race parade at the Daytona 500. White with matte black GS stripes. Very nice car!

I have the best of both worlds , a cassette player in the dash for playing all of my classic oldies and the CD player in the trunk. Consider adding the CD player in the back and enjoy .
Hard to say: the owner's manual for my '04 has a section for the AM/FM/cassette radio, but I was under the impression that the single-disc CD head unit was standard that year. My GF has had two nearly identical (and pretty much loaded) Buick LeSabres: the '01 had cassette, the '05 has CD.
CDs have been around since the mid-'80s and "record" stores quit selling cassettes in the early '90s. But I don't think CD players for cars really caught on until the recorder drives for PCs became common, maybe '95-'96?
In any case, swapping out the head unit for something a bit more modern is (or at least can be) cheap and trivially simple. Let the guys at Crutchfield hook you up.

I have a stock CD player in my '98 which I believe came with the Bose stereo package. Surely CD players were available in the '97 as well. I remember buying CDs in the early 90s so I would think in a flagship Chevy that you could get a CD player in a C4 Vette.
