I will say, that is one decision I would like to be in a position to make.
I've highly modified my Z, over the course of 11 years, but I've yet to do a burnout, or race it, ever. I did manage to shatter the diff. when hitting 3rd gear hard, so I guess it's not babied. I once had a minivan as a DD, and noticed I drove it very slow and easy, without even thinking about it. Same with my wife's SUV. My Corvette, and my new DD, a GTI; not so much.
If you "drive like you've never driven before" that would mean that you'd "drive" like crap, and would probably never see her again due to a lack of "driving" skills.
I'd rather "drive like it's a 300 mph top-fuel dragster" and have her begging for another run.
I'm thinking she might prefer the "drive like you've never driven before" the 300 mph dragster is done in what 4 to 5 seconds.......she might be begging, but it wont be for another round like that!
However, you could be right, one of my buddies admitted he launched before ever getting in the seat one time!

In this context, "driven hard" means abused. And to define abuse means to look at the details.
Is a Corvette that was tracked abused?
If the oil temps stayed below 250F and the water temp below 230F, I would argue no.
Is a Corvette that was launched hard repeatedly at the drag strip on slicks abused?
I'm not really involved in that, but my laymans guess would be that the clutch and diff might have been abused.
Is a car that was daily driven abused?
Depends on if it was run hard without bringing the oil up to temperature, or not keeping up with oil changes and regular maintenance.
Point is, you need a pretty good level of detail sometimes on how the car was driven and maintained to make a conclusion if it was "driven hard" to excessive levels of wear and tear.
Mine is modded, and I consider mine driven hard.
It see's more track time then around town driving.
That said... I change the oil every few hundred miles not thousand.
I did not raise my rev limiter.
I run the best stuff nothing cheap.
I have dot 4 break fluid
synthetic power steering fluid, after market cooler
Getting synthetic trany fluid when I do the clutch this winter.
Adding an oil cooler... my engine wont last quite as long as stock, but pretty close.
My car is driven very hard, but very well maintained.
To me a modded car is only bad if it was owned buy someone who could not actually
afford to take care of it or did not know how to take care of.
I would not touch a modded eclipse or honda. You know some kid ran the hell out of them.
But if 60 year old added a super charger to a corvette it is likely well cared for.
Plus you can rebuild the engine for less then the cost of a super charger.
Look at the mods done. Look at the owner if you can and try to make an educated
decision as to how well the car was cared for.
if you've ever done an HPDE or road race the engine is almost never below 3000. you operate in that 3000-6500 range for 15-20 minutes. car in spun up, on the brakes, spun up, repeat.
puts a LOT more wear and tear on the bearings and rings than standard driving.
driven like that on the street can also be bad news. lot of driveline shock, cv axles, transmission quick shifts. it all adds up. racing is very very hard on cars.
Awww man...you're looking to get driving school from the prodrivers of youtube...lol. I remember the video from when Viper ACR posted its Nurburgring run...all the toobers were saying the guy couldn't drive when he was stretching the gear to the next turn...funny stuff. Gotta love youtoobers talkin out their ***...lol. So many wannabes out there...

don't think many people, especially on youtube have really done any sort of autocross or road racing on the clock. i would assume that ridding the rev limiter was tested against shifting on that course and staying in the lower gear and riding it out proved faster around that course
ever notice how many "car blows up videos" get an insane number of thumbs down? i always picture these 13yr old kids all pissed off that someone broke the car they jerk to on a nightly basis

My favorites are the ones where some working shmoe has what few extra dollars he can afford and a ton of sweat equity in a super nice C5 street car, and some schmuck kid posts that an Aventador would kick its ***. No shyte, Sherlock.
It's a Corvette people, if I drove a Buick, I would drive it like a grandpa!
I have 700hp and have attended 1/4 and 1/2 mile racing and several blasts at triple digits, in Mexico of course!
I take very good care of my car and do proper maintenance often, but lets face it, it's a Covette, and yes I have pushed my car to it's full potential!

High on top of a mountain there stood an old bull and a young bull.
Both of them were leering at the young heifers down in the valley quite a distance away.
The young bull was snorting, huffing and puffing, pacing back and forth, etc.
Finally, after a while, the young bull said...
"Say, why don't we run down this mountain and have our way with one of them?"
The old bull pondered for a moment, smiled, leaned over, and calmly said...
"Why don't we walk down the mountain and have our way with all of them!"
Which reminds me of this one:
A bunch of bulls were standing in a pasture next to the ranchers home. A big semi pulls in pulling a trailer with all sorts noise and pandemonium coming from the inside. The driver opens the gate on the trailer and this big ol' monster bull runs out into the pasture. All the bulls except for one young one started moving away to the other side of the pasture. The one young one started snorting and pawing the ground. The older bulls said, "What are you doing, the bull is gonna hurt you bad." The young bull replied, "Well, at least he'll know I'm a bull."

one of the better speed shops in the NW, english racing did a c6 zr1 that ran low 10s, posted it on facebook. sure enough some kid said man i can make a honda do that for 10k
within a couple posts it was correctly mentioned that A. the zr1 can stop B. the zr1 can corner and C. the zr1 won't blow up after 5 passes from some idiot pushing 20psi through a large turbo on cast pistons and stock honda rods
