I just had an article published in the UK Corvette Club Magazine.
Having flown the Phantom for many years and written a book about my experiences it was quite a sad day when the German Air Force retired their Phantoms. Our own F4s retired back in 1992 but even so it brought a big lump to the throat to see the old lady "off the premises".
But most important, I took the C5 across The English Channel and enjoyed a week on the roads of Europe including a trip to The Nurburgring.
Enjoyed the article. I also enjoy reading your postings on the forum. It is interesting to me to read about maintaining your Vette and driving it in the UK. Thanks for your service and best wishes Dave.
That was awesome, I've always loved aviation, the closest thing to flying a plane I ever got though was jumping out of em Flying jets has to be a blast.
I'm an old Phantom RIO and it was sad to read that. Back when I was on active duty I tried everything to get an exchange tour with the RAF or Luftwaffe to no avail. I did get to spend a month with a USAF F-4E squadron in Korea; that's the only other version of the F-4 I flew beside the USN F-4J and S.
Sometimes I get to talk to young guys who are on active duty flying the latest aircraft and I realize I've come full circle from the days when I talked to the old-timers who had flown F9F Panthers of F11 Tigers. I'm the old geezer now.
