Decided to remove the BSMs. Alas when I took the drivers side off looks like there was an extra coat of clear sprayed with the BSM on. Two very obvious lines where the BSM cam off. Definitely not glue residue you could feel the indent with your nail very easily. Put the damn thing back on. Only option would have been wet sanding which is beyond my skill. Maybe I'll get a quote from a body shop for that. Meantime they will stay back on. Total waste of time and blistered thumbs from clearing the old glue off them so I could put them back on. Sigh....some days things just don't work...
As soon as I found out there could be a potential issue once the old BSM's were removed, I decided they really do not bother me very much verses the stuff you discovered...

Didn't like the BSM's since the day I bought the car, also recognizing some owners love 'em. Took me the better part of an afternoon to get mine off - a real PITA job - but IMHO it adds to the car's sleek design.

Had same issue, my polisher with m105 and a MF pad took it right off!
Wish it would have polished out - would have to be wet sanded. You could hold a straight rule against the body work and see about 0.5 mm gap. I'm guessing maybe a scratch on the panel in the past had to be fixed and clear was sprayed over the panel - don't know.

Door was most likely REPAINTED, you will NOT fix this with wet-sanding and polishing. Any panel like this will have to be repainted and recleared.
Sorry about your trouble removing your bsm's. if you do remove them down the road be sure to glove up with some mechanix gloves so you don't blister up.
I just had a damaged during shipping hood fixed painted installed, rear quarters painted and installed and spoiler painted and installed for $1500. I can't imagine this would be that pricey.
