Last Sunday I took my car for a ride. When I turned it on to go back home (it was already night and the car was completely cold - but just 75°F ambient temperature) and after rolling just a few feet I noticed something that I had never seen before.
The active handling light got on and a message appeared in the DIC. I almost didn't have time to read it, but it was something like this (I'm not sure of the exact wording, everything happened really fast): "Active Handling system finished warming up" and then both, light and message, disappeared and everything went back to normal.
Have any of you guys seen something like this? Is this normal?
I get that and "Service Active Handling" messages on a regular basis. I've chosen to do nothing about it since the car is primarily a track car now and it hits public roads only to drive to and from the next event. I turn off A/H all the time.
My F55 does that all the time, it's normal. Sometimes it takes a minute or so with the "Active Handling warming up" message and the AH warning light to go out. It very briefly displays "Active Handling warmup complete" or something like that. The colder it is outside the longer it takes but I've never had it take over a couple hundred yards.
It's the precursor to total EBCM failure that will easily cost you over $10,000 to fix and it devalues your car in its carfax record as "broke big-time once".....it's a rarely used code but cuts the resale value in half.
So just start saving up your money.....no big deal.
The Active Handling system calibrates itself every time that you start the engine. If you park the car with the wheels pointed other than straight ahead you can cause the "Act Hndlg Warming Up" message by driving the car without first straightening the wheels as for example if you drive a curved road immediately (cul de sac for example) and then straighten the wheels. You will then get the "warm up complete" once the wheels have been pointed straight ahead long enough for the AH calibration to complete. Don't worry about it unless the Warm Up Complete message never comes on after the Act Hndlg Warming Up displays.
