before i dump any more money on my 98 coupe... I have been thinking, should I hold of on all my mods leave the car where it is now and save for a c6 or is the 98 worth all the trouble to mod.
the car is slightly modded pushing about 400 to the rear, dont get me wrong I love my c5, but I also love the look of the c6 plus the ease of the HP bump compared to my 98... I wouldnt be replacing the c5 if anything I would just add a c6 then when the mod bug hits me on the c6 maybe plan to rid of the c5... just a thought tho... any of you guys gone through this?
C5 and C6 are so similar technologically that you might as well chose the one you like better and mod it accordingly. I prefer the C5 body style to the non-wide-bodied C6, therefore I have a C5.

thats the thing... .im really liking that c6 wide body.. now if i added up the cost to getting my c5 to look and outperform a modded c6... i think it would run me more than what a c6 would cost me.. hmm idk though I do love my c5 but it just seems like I would need deep pockets to make it how Id like it to be
I prefer the look of the C5 (and I love mine) however, if money was available I would hold out for an 08 or later C6 and mod that one. Better handling ride and more HP to start off with.

thats why Im at a point where I question myself... " do I keep modding? or do I save for an 09-up" especially with the c7s coming out the following years.. the prices of c6 will def go down an be more affordable.. who knows might find a descent c6Z with the right price..

you can save and mod at the same time. But limit your mods to reversible ones, that you can remove and sell later. What you get back will reduce the cost of the C6. In my case I have over $5k coming when I return my C5 to stock. Keep in mind dealers actually prefer a stock vehicle if you end up trading in....you won't get anything for any mods on your trade-in. Some good examples that will reward you later are:
wheels, tires, coilovers, big brake calipers, exhaust cat back, and headers.
avoid any internal engine mods...people fear the car has been abused no matter what you tell them...just common sense. Good luck!

I think this will be the route Ill be taking.. modding little at a time and save for a c6 the same time.. and yes definitely I'm keeping all my stock parts for when I decide to trade in or sell the car.. I have bought many cars "upgraded" parts and got less or same value as a similar stock version of the car.. Ive learned my lesson that no matter what you do and how much you put in a car.. most will prefer a stock or and "un-touched" vehicle

I'm right there with you on 'do I continue with modding the current c5' or buy a newer version. I have a friend that drives a new C6 as his daily and I gotta say it's a pretty sweet ride, one that I told him I would gladly buy from him when he upgrades to the C7 :-) I say hold off and wait for a reasonably priced C6Z then.
I have wrestled with this several times. Again, this winter I am looking at dumping another $7K in mods on my C5. I can afford a $50K C6 Z but I am kind of old school and like the personality my car is taking on. It is not going to be like "all the others" which is what I would have with a C6Z. But still I wonder if.........................
$7K is the low end of the spectrum... I won't even tell you what my build is costing me...

I would agree that if you want to mod your C5, do it to where it can be easily reversible. I would look for an '08+ C6 if that is the direction you go.
Stop spending another dollar and just get you a C6 Z06. I wanted a widebody Z06 myself for about a month or two a couple of years ago. But I decided to make my C5 like no other and now have one that'll smoke a C6 Z06 and still be different, I can pass on a C6 Z06.
BUT, it's a long and costly exercise to attempt and you better know how you want it to end up like.
Hence, play it safe and just save up and get the C6 Z06.

This is damn good advise! I'm at a point where my car is modded enough to be faster than a c5z so I think I will just stop the mods and just enjoy the car till I can save up for a big body z! For sure it will be a while so I just have to try and not be tempted to mod my c5

Sounds like you have made your decision so just be true to what you really want. Like you said, resist temptation. If you really want a C6 Z then just save knowing it's coming. If you really wanted to mod your C5 then just save, but you seem to want the C6 so....

You can wide body your C5 for a few grand. I would love a C6 Z but lifes on going crisis with raising kids hampers my efforts. So I make the best with what I'm blessed with. I'm in the process of going wide with my 02 coupe. Save a little buy a little. She will be awesome when its done. I love the look of a wide body C5 done right and there are a lot of beautiful ones on this forum. Tbrent has one of these insperational rides. I do a few interior mods then a few body mods. Squeezed a few drive trian mods in when my tranny went out. Fun car to work on. You will have something special which ever route you choose.

" either way. The juice will be worth the squeeze " ... I like that! Don't get me wrong I love my c5, it's what introduced me to the LS platform and how strong they are.. It's just since my car is a 98 it just makes it that much harder to mod which can get costly also... Who knows in the end I might end up with a c6 and a c5 but only time will tell ...
