A pickup at a generator? Now that's a cool mechanics idea. 😎👍I do have to agree about this kind of experience is good for the soul too. Humbles a person and makes you realize you're not always prepared.
It's literally part of the truck from the factory. F150 Limited Powerboost. It's a performance hybrid.
You can hook up to the AC power and literally activate the generator, lock the doors, and walk away. It will sit there and run the load and start the gas engine to maintain itself as needed.
That's the serious mamma jamma. The real expense is the batteries for the high draw tools like grinders and shop vaca. Once you have one or two of those and a mix of the others it is all gravy. I told my dad I have all that stuff free to use any time, so why worry about buying in?
The only Milwaukee I have busted yet was the grinder and I didn't break it so much as the trigger died. I did cave and get a cover for my general use fuel impact though.
I agree, man they really get ya with the batteries. But when you have them, why not get some tools that can use them. I have a gas chainsaw too but haven't needed it yet since I've lived here. Electric starts first time everytime.

Glad ya made it through the storm and it's effects.
When I moved out to the country, I had a Generac 22kw generator installed. It was expensive but worth every penny. It's hooked up to my propane tank and provides more electricity than I could ever use. I'm on a community well though, so when the neighborhood loses electricity, I lose water. I store about 20 gallons of water for that reason.
Back in 2021, we lost power for just 12 hours or so because of some weird storm called a Derecho. My friends in Cedar Rapids (about 20 miles from me) lost power for over 3 weeks!!! Since then, they too installed a Generac generator. Cedar Rapids was hit really hard, lost like 770,000 trees (70% of all trees in the city). It was a total cluster %$#@
Mother nature can be pretty brutal at times. I'm definitely going to be installing something too. I don't have propane and my little community has the same water source, but we are all are on our own well.
Got the limbs cleaned up around the place today. If anyone has reservations about an electric chainsaw, I can give 1st hand recommendations about this Milwaukee M18 one. It worked and performed great. Made short work of the big stuff I had to deal with. I am very happy with it. Of the 4 bars on the full charge on the battery, it only used 1. Could have gone all day I bet.
Hey Mark, I'm glad to hear that you have everything cleaned up and that your power is back on. I agree, Milwaukee makes great power tools. I have a couple of their power tools and highly recommend the brand as well. Generators are great to have in Florida. I have a lithium powered generator with portable solar panels for recharging. Never runs out of fuel, perfectly quiet and no fumes.
You have plenty of sunshine down there for solar for sure. We probably do too here. I'm still doing my research and waiting for local stock to be replenished. Might be another week or 2 before I decide what I'll go with.
Very nice day yesterday. It was 80 degrees here. No'mo snow so I went out and played with the Vette. Took the coilovers off the front as it's the hardest one of the 2 ends to deal with. Got the spring installed and all but done. Still need a bolt for the drivers rear A-arm but that won't be in until Monday. And I need to install the shocks too. I'm going out today to try and get that done for sure. It's only 45 here today and raining. Good day to stay indoors. I'll see what I can get done on the rear too. Tomorrow is suppose to be a little colder out so might just have to stay inside. I figure if I like the coilovers better then the Z springs, I'll just take the time and put them back in. I don't have a problem with that as I do like to wrench at times.
I tried some of that aluminum bright from NAPA, and I will say this.....it does work very well. I am pleasantly surprised.
I'm not saying this to trash people that love their coilovers, but I really think as street driver you are going to much prefer the stock configuration once you get it driving again.
We hit 73 in a burst today. Too hot for my winter thick blood yet. But it's New England and already back down to 57 within two hours.
The factory stuff maxed out does fine. But you cannot dissuade me from my RideTechs. Anything beyond that brand for me so far is a random test until I get time on them. RideTechs, stop tech street/strip pads, sticky 305 RE-11s, Z06 sways.... That's a real hard combination to shake. It was a whole different car.

Colder today. Down to 44 so a bit more chilly. Didn't get a chance with the Vette. One of our toilets has been on the stinky side the last couple days, so I decided to make the wife happy and look into it. It's been rocking for a few weeks now and I shimmed it a little back then. I figured since it was rocking that the seal was messed up, and sure enough, it was messed up. I was just going to replace the seal, but it had other ideas for me. One of the mount bolts on the flange was cracked and not holding anything down and tight. So off to the hardware store for the second time today. Found a repair ring so screwed that down and now it's good as new. Glad I didn't have to replace the whole flange. That's what I was worried about happening. Wife is happy again, but the Vette will have to wait until tomorrow, but most likely Monday. Should be able to get it wrapped up then I hope. I hate working on toilets....but the aircraft toilets were even worse and stunk much more too. So this wasn't as bad as I figured. Glad it's over too.
As for the Vette, I'm thinking it will ride much better with the stockish stuff back on it. I may look at better shocks down the road after I get it aligned and driving well. I have the old bilsteins going back on for now. Don't get me wrong, I did really like the Vikings, but it was just to harsh for this area of the country and what I do with the car.
I agree, this time of year the weather can get crazy unpredictable. Back and forth for us here too. It's only 32 out now with a high of 40. 40 degree swing from 2 days ago. 🤨
Played with the Vette today. Very nice out and it was only 55 degrees in the garage. Then my internal temp went way up. Went to put the driverside A-arm on for good, and found out the front bolt just spun. No torquing that thing. So I took it back off and found the threads are all FUBARED inside the frame. My heart sank and I got pretty frustrated with it. But I did tackle the rear and got that done and complete. I did some research on the front and I completely forgot that GM put a rivnut in the frame. So my hopes for it are pretty high again. I thought I was stuck with going oversized or helicoil and that wasn't going to set well with me. Rivnut is a great idea. So I'll be on the search for a new rivnut to install. I saw the thread pitch is an M10x1.5. Does that sound right? I didn't take any pictures of the completed rear as I was to pissed to remember to do that. The coilovers are off now and the transverse springs are back on along with the Bilstein HD shocks. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep the coilovers or sell them yet. If I ever wind up moving again back to where the grandkids are, I may want them back on. But that won't be for a few years yet if at all.
