Stripping the chrome is really expensive. Quality powdercoating is, too. Shipping four wheels back and forth, any distance, will probably cost $500. Chroming aluminum wheels is never a good idea,
Thanks for the info and comments. I have found a place in Omaha that will take the chrome off for $125 each. They said they do a lot of that for local powder coaters but they don't rechrome. They also said that there's not many places left that will rechrome wheels anymore. He did suggest Cal Plating. I'll have a look at their site and maybe send them a message. I'm pretty sure getting the chrome removed and powder coated will be the cheapest route to go. I have a few months to think about it. I also think powder coated wheels would be easier to take care of and clean too.

I went the new forged wheel route, however agree on the maintenance. I ran a set of polished CCW 505As and although I loved the look, they were really a labor of love to keep them looking nice as a typical Florida summer pop-up rain shower was their worst enemy. Road rain water mixed in with brake dust would form quick stains that I needed to remove as soon as possible or I would need to spend more time buffing them out during my semi-annual wheel removal barrel clean and polish.
The polished brush finish on my new wheels is so much easier to maintain as I basically just need to hose them off and wipe them down with a MF towel. However, I do miss the lips at times.

A friend of mine here in Central TX purchased some chromed CCW SP500's. Since the chrome had started pitting on the inside of the barrels, he called around to get a price quote, for stripping them. No chrome shop in Texas would touch them and sending them out of state was going to cost approximately $1200-$1500/set + freight. Depending on the finish, powdercoating will run around $400-$1000/set.
I would be very leary of anyone quoting $125/each but that's just me.
Hey, how about a yellow suit, purple tie, and green shoes? J/k…😀
On the wheels I thought it might be cool to do, say, the barrels in purple and the centers silver/chrome look. Or some combination…. Could be a match shade, or a tinted translucent that is less conspicuous.
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions. I am going to be putting the car up for the year soon and I'll have time to get some quotes with actual numbers. I haven't totally committed to the powder coat way yet. I have to go visit the powder coat place and see their operation. From the word of mouth and reviews I've seen, they seem to be a great place to use. A 2 tone purple/silver wheel? Hmmmm, not sure I'd have to think on that one to long. But ya never know. New wheels may be on the docket too. I am looking at the for sale section as well. If anyone has a set of CCW SP510's (#1) or the T10 (#2) they don't want anymore let me know, might be able to work something out. Those are the ones I've really liked for a while but never really pursued. I want the 18 front and 19 back on any wheel I may get too. I'll update this when I figure anything out. Wife is doing great since getting out of the hospital too. 😎👍
Went to another show with my cousin, who took his 1946 Suburban. Had a great day for it and come out pretty good again. Show was in West Point, Nebraska and previously called The Last Fling Til Spring, now just called the West Point Car Show. They said they had over 300 vehicles there so, decent sized. Grape did good again. Got the Outstanding Corvette/Sports Car trophy that also included a $100 check with it. That makes 2 weeks in a row now I got paid for attending a show. Can't complain at all about that. Not many shows actually pay winners around here but it makes it more special I think. 1 more show the 1st week of October and that is the last one for the summer season. Then Grape will go up on jackstands and the wheels will come off. Then I'll get to my research and decide how I want to proceed with them. If I can get the chrome off and powder coated, I'll lean towards that process. But won't know anything on that until I get some info on it to see if it's at all even possible to do. I'll update when I figure it out.
Nice sunrise at 7:15 AM leaving the homestead.
Little foggy too.
Cousin's Suburban rear end..
Parked and ready..
Trophy and check. Sometimes it pays to wake up early.
When Road Gems quit doing the show, the town took it over. In my opinion, they ruined it by taking it off main street and putting it in the parking lots by the Neilson building. I'll definitely check out that chrome place too. Thanks

Had the final car show for the year for me today I believe. Pretty local so I didn't have to drive but maybe 17 miles or so. Had like 5 rain clouds fly overhead too during the day. I'm glad I brought extra towels with, used them all. While sitting in my chair talking to my neighbors, we had a bald eagle fly over that was all but maybe 20 feet above us. Now that was cool. This will be my final show for the 2025 season I think, so it's time to look into getting the wheels taken care of. I hope to have time for the double din finally too. My in-laws are in the process of moving to town and I and my brother-in-law been super busy with their old place getting his farm equipment ready for an auction. Had to get 2 1950's Ford N tractors and a John Deere Buck running again after sitting for a few years. We finally got the last tractor running Friday afternoon. That one we worked on for maybe 3 or 4 days. The gas tank has corrosion in it and was plugging up the carburetor. Major pain in the butt. It finally popped off Friday afternoon for us and runs great again.
Ending the season on a high note. Good way to end it..
