I have just purchased on '01, A4 that my wife and I will be using for trips. I am now paranoid of the dreaded column lock failure. I have read about the column lock bypass devices which I would like to install. However, I read the following statement on another forum: "All year C5's with a 6 speed transmission, and all pre-2001 model C5's with an automatic can use this device. 2001 and later model automatic cars do not have a column lock at all."
Question:
Is the above statement true? 2001 automatic does not have a column lock?
Also, is there a way to know if the car was fixed in a recall since I bought it used.
