I don't drive a lot at night, so I really have never been bothered by the lousy headlights.
But please help me with the nomenclature... I see ACA, JW, Radioflyer... modified ACA housings, Bi-xenon... etc.
I see some people are finding them for $300, and Radioflyer's kit is $650.
What is what? I don't want to cut corners. I'm a good shadetree mechanic, but I don't want to go cutting everything up to get something to work and find it doesn't fit right. I also want to do this ONCE and be done. I don't want too much electrical load/draw on my 12yr old factory wiring harnesses... to me that = fire hazard.
Thx for the help.
The RadioFlyer Bi-xenon have one HID bulb and a shutter moves over for the high beam. The Housings are All ACA replica's. JWM has the housings with HID Low beams and a standard high beam bulb.
Hope that helps. The 35watt ones I believe draw the same as the stock headlights.

My HIDs (low beams) throw so much focused light that I find my high beams don't add anything...the high beams' light isn't as "white" and it is more diffused, scattering light to the left (into oncoming traffic). And the HID low beams throw light MUCH further down the road than the high beams do.
For those reasons, I don't ever use my high beams. MY HID low beams are so good that the high beams are essentially useless.

The original ACA did. The repro's harness for this wasn't built correctly, so we remove that portion and offer our 4 on harness as an option.
We can still get the original ACA with H9 bulbs, but they cost more. Demand isn't there so we don't bother stocking them.
I replaced my stock bulbs with HIR bulbs and added Radioflyers Hi-4 Harness so low beams stay on when you go to high beams. The light output is a huge improvement and it allows you to keep the stock housings and look. All for @ $100

Well….The short version: ACA was a manufacturer of the headlight lenses that included a true projector unit for the low beam and a reflector lens for the high beam. The low beams utilize an HID bulb effectively with a true focused beam. The high beam uses a standard halogen bulb in a reflector lens. Using an HID bulb in the high beam will be bright but not focus the beam and the light will be scattered. Note that the ACA low and high beam cannot be aimed individually and once the low beams are correctly aimed the high beams will be off. In most cases way to high.
Radioflyer and JWM are vendors here on the forum who both have product offerings based upon modified ACA headlights and their own proprietary units. I will leave it to Radioflyer, JWM and others to extol their own products and features. Radioflyer has also a modified ACA housing with a BiXeon projector (low and high in one projector).
I personally purchased by ACA units off the auction site originally. I then upgraded to a set by Radioflyer with the halo option and the high beam readjusted so that when the low beam is aimed correctly the high beam is not to high and effective, though my lows with the projector lens and HID bulb do not normally require the highs.

Correct on the function of our headlights.
The factory draw on the headlights is 55w and in order to maintain proper headlight raise/lower function an HID kit must draw the same amount of power or the buckets will not work correctly.
Corvettemods is also like JWM....I have a set and love them, night and day difference over the stock lighting. I no longer fear driving in the dark, and have been doing it daily lately here in the PNW. Lifetime warranty too!
RF's are the top, but too pricey for me. (you get what you pay for though!)
Im right along w ya, the stock lights gotta GO....before I spend big bucks on HIDs Im gonna try this and see if its what I want for $100+$25 for the "Hi 4" harness that RF sells I cant loose much!
I can not see how even the Lows on HIDs wouldnt blind on coming traffic and have them possibly hit ya head on....(Worst Case)
2nd if they are bright enough to blind on coming traffic, Cops are def gonna pull ya over ASAP
