I would like to be able to jack up the car...front end at one time and the back end. I would love to be able to take the wheels off and polish the barrels and be able to paint the calipers. My wife has a corvette also. What would you suggest getting as a beginner. I am a little concerned about doing it myself but I want to. Do I get pucks and then what kind of jack?
You can go to a website like Ecklers.com or others and buy pucks - - or make them by getting two hockey pucks, glue them together, drill a hole in the center and screw in an eye bolt you can insert into the frame side rails to position the floor jack beneath.
Craftsman makes a good low profile jack available at Sears - - lots of other sources- but you will need a low front to get under the car. Harbor Freight's another good place to look. http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...ump-68051.html
Using jackstands for safety, you can jack up the car- positon the jack stands for support- and remove each wheel, clean and then return them to their postion and tighten the lug nuts to 100 pounds of torque.
Repeat on the other side. Then you can also wash, clean the wheel wells and suspension components while the wheel is off and wipe off what you can safely reach.
You might also need some short ramps to get the front end of the car high enough to get a floor jack under. Two stacked 2 x 12s with one end cut at an angle will work. Have you tried searching? There are many posts with photos here.
Reverse Logic offers quality Delrin jacking pucks, flat-top rubber padded ESCO jack stands, low frame height Compac floor jacks, and custom Race Ramps service ramps. You can find other lower priced brands than the ones we carry. But, you won't find the top brands we sell at lower prices. You also won't find the custom versions of the ESCO jack stands and Race Ramps models at any other resellers.

Great project - -
I made my own pucks.I bought the 1 1/2 ton alum.jack #68053 from Harberfreight on sale for $59.95 it only weights 27 lbs. works great plus it fits in the large center storage compartment.(vert.)
I take my wheels off and clean them and the wheel wells frequently.
I made my own pucks (there are links on this forum with specific instructions) and purchased a Arcan 2.5 ton "low profile" jack from Costco that works great. I also have several jack stands that I use as well.
You can jack the car, using the pucks, from one of the designated jack points and proceed to remove the wheels and perform your cleaning.
The pucks cost approximately $15 to make, but you can also purchase them from any of the Corvette supply vendors for anywhere from $39 on up. I believe the jack cost around $99. I looked at the jacks at Harbor Freight, but thought the jack at Costco was of higher quality for the $. The Craftsman at Sears was quite a bit more expensive as I recall.
My car has NOT been lowered and the above jack has no trouble getting under the car with the jack puck installed. The jack sits at 3 1/2" at its low point.
Hope this helps!
