Today I called around town to get some prices for a new set of Bridgestones. Two shops could not locate any in their warehouses. I stopped at TiresPlus and after a half hour of searching he found some, but they were quite far away so he had to add 15 bucks a tire for shipping. I had them check other brands and he thought Firestones had been discontinued and had a hard time locating any other brands in the same price range. Are C5s the only car that runs these size tires? Will there be a problem down the road finding tires?
You don't say if you are looking for stock size or other or coupe/vert or Z06..
Tire Rack has the OEM size for both the Z06 and non-Z06 in Potenza RE760 Sport in stock.
Stock tires for a convertible. I could have ordered them from Tirerack, but that would have cost about 40 bucks more with the shipping.
Best deal was thru Tires Plus. Just have to wait a few days to get here. It just seemed odd that they were so scarce in the Twin Cities area.
Z06 sizes are basically out of style and only available in a couple of old compounds, but regular C5's can still get some of the latest and greatest tires like the Michelin PSS.
It's due to new cars all going to bigger and bigger diameter wheels. 17" is now an economy car wheel, sports cars are running 19, 20, 21.
Ditto here, ordered Michelin Pilot Super Sports for my new GS 18/19's last week from my nearby Discount Tire. They got the fronts (245/40/18) but have to get the rears (285/35/19) from another store in Texas.
I live in a large hub city, Phoenix AZ, and the tires are a stock C6 size. WUWT??
They offered me Michelin Pilot Sport AS3's for less money but I'd rather have the Super Sport's. Going to have to wait another week or 2
Even down in USA? I have never had so much problem buying tires as finding 2 rear tires for this C5. Even Goodyear had none (OEMs). Finally Costco, of all places, had some Michelins. Makes me worry about what will be around in 3-4 years when I'll need a full set. BTW, staying with run flats (this time)
I'm not going to send them back if they are older than 6 months. The tires on the car are 8 years old.
That tire dating is , just another way of selling tires and people fall for it. If they are not weather or age cracked , they are perfectly safe. The only exception is if the car sat in one spot for 30 years you might want to consider new tires since they will have flat spots anyway.

Actually tires do break down with age. Best to replace after 6 to 10 years old especially if there is high speed driving involved. They may look perfect but the rubber deteriorates over time. http://www.edmunds.com/car-care/how-...our-tires.html
Seems like Spring is the time everyone buys tires & parts... Wait till mid summer or better, fall, and availability & prices will be better. Discount Tire often offers $100 off a set of 4 on July 4th weekend & labor Day weekend.

absolutely 100% not true
tire age is the single biggest component to traction
i can absolutely promise you that there is a gradual decline in available traction from the day the tire is made. by year 3-4 a tire is not able to pull anywhere near the same G's as it could when it was just produced. everything from launch traction to cornering to rain traction to dry traction is absolutely tied to age
