I grew up in the muscle car era and the sound of a screaming Chevy V8 is a big part of what I have to have in my hp cars. A Volkswagen looking car with a 6 cyl just won't do. The Viper doesn't even make the right sounds.
Anyone who says the interior is better, it may be a hint better, but that's it.
You can't be serious. The C5 has the cheapest interior available. I challenge you to guess just what part of your seats are actually leather. You know, the same seats that barely hold you in place around a turn. The shiny plastic dashboard housing the radio and climate controls (that look just like the ones used in every other GM vehicle) sure is upscale, too. But, I am still not sure what variables you consider when calling something "better".

This is only a "hint" better...than a full Caravaggio or apsis interior.
Now tell me, what Porsche is that out of? I can damn sure tell you it's nothing like the one I drove
It's the full leather option. I believe you can get it in any of the models as long as you pony up the money. They charge a few hundred to put their logo in the headrests so the full leather is likely an option that is a couple of grand. Highly desirable though.

Are you sure there wasn't a CD player in the "trunk" between the front two wheels? I think I've seen them there before. My 2005 Sierra, for some unknown reason, has a tape player and a cd player. Needless to say, the tape player has never been used. And for added measure, the CD player no longer works

No, the Maserati dealer told me that there was no CD player. We even looked to make sure. Just a cassette tape.
I would certainly take that over the 911! My point though guys, I was always told that all 911's were amazing, no matter which one. From where I sat, this 911 was no better in any category than my z, aside from shifter feel. I'll give that to Porsche, they did that shifter right.

Once again, you are comparing a Z06 to a base car. The 996 is also the least liked and most criticized of any 911 so you should drive a few different examples before coming to a conclusion.
I drove a few base Corvettes and always felt meh towards them, especially C6s but my Z06 was the first car that really made me want to spend my money on a Corvette. The 997tt I drove gave me the same feeling, except my bank account disagreed with me

My point stands, there's nothing about it that's worth the price tag.
I like 911's and even Cayman's and have seriously considered trading in both my 02 Z06 and Daily Driver GTI for a 997 Turbo 911 or 991S plus a ton of $. Not really into the C7 or C6 Z06.
I do need to drive them though but to me they seem as easier all-around cars than the vette. With the turbo I'd get my cake and eat it too.
I'm not a typical Vette person, or GM die-hard even though I've had both a Camaro and a Corvette I have no illusions about Chevy, and I certainly have no illusions about how overpriced Porsche is.
If we're in mid-engine, $50k+ price range, anyone consider a Noble or used Rossion?
Not a very friendly daily driver But as a weekend cruiser / track toy, it would be a unique, fun hoot. Way more interesting than just another Porsche! heck, trophy wives drive 911's in the rizy parts of town...
Fast as stink and fantastic handling. They pop up around $50k from time to time. Rossion Q1 shows up for more like $80k, much much better interior and more finished build quality.
Comparing a Base 911 (996) to a ZO6 is not a valid comparison.
Also the 996 was Porsches first entry into the Liquid Cool engine for the 911. The 996 would not be my first choice. I would say to make a fair comparison Go back one generation to the 993 Carrera C4S or go one generation newer to the 997 C4S.... These are NON Turbo cars and would be a valid comparison to a ZO6.... You can not make a comparison based on price. The 996 IMO was an ugly car. They got it right with the 993 and the 997

993 Carrera 4S
That 993 C4S is beautiful and they are increasing in value.
I think the only 911s you can compare to the Z06 would be the GT3 or Turbo.
Base 911 = Base Corvette
911 GT3/Turbo = Corvette Z06
No 911 will give you the ground thumping feel a C6 Z06 will. The Turbo will accelerate as fast, but it just is a more "whooshy" feeling because of the all-wheel drive and possibly higher build quality that will only cost you an additional 70 or so thousand...
