Me and my son were cruising yesterday just enjoying the afternoon
and guess what I get pulled over by johnny law. Was not speeding or
anything else just enjoying the moment. I received a ticket for no front
license plate on my 2002 Z06. I guess its a law in texas but I have not
seen any c5 body corvette in town with a front license plate. Anyone
with opinions on this matter?
Been thinking about this and this is what I've concluded...
I'm doing myself, my community, and the police a favor...
1. Now they have an excuse to pull me over, and anyone else who might be driving my car without my permission.
2. I get to know the local police, state police, and Highway patrolmen. No big deal, if they don't suit my fancy I'll write them up and submit a complaint.
3. So I might have to pay a little for for this feature my car should have in the first place.
4. Its my freedom of expression/speech that keeps the word Corvette on the front of my car. Sure I'm proud of it.
5. I like keeping my car factory, it came like this from the factory. The license plate holder was an accessory, I chose not to install it.
6. Contributing to a Judge's re-election campaign is not such a bad thing, of course I'm sure he could do a lot more good with my contribution than the city or state government could with the fine money.

Ok, here is a dumb question. Arizona does not require a front plate, so if I cruise thru Texas am I obligated by their law to have a front plate and a set of steer horns on the hood?

Absolutely not! :nono: They are not allowed to fine you if you are from a state without a front license plate law.
Here's an idea that I have been playing with. Take the license plate and fold it (90 deg. back) just above the letters. Use this new "flange" to mount it below the front facia where it is barely visible. Bend the lower part of the tag if it hangs too low. This way you don't ruin the look the car has in the front but you can say "wait I have my front license plate right here"
Of course this probably will not work because law inforcement people in general are control freaks and would not stand for a logical alternative. They will only settle for you doing something you don't want to.
The reason they stop you, besides an easy harrassment. Is that your other plate could be on your other car (or a friends.) There is some logic to this but it is annoying just the same. I'll be putting a front plate on mine when I get it this week. I drive through too many small towns where the cops are just looking for a reason to stop you. :mad
Mr Bill--I drove without one in Minnesota for 4 years trouble free :D . It IS breaking the law but so is speeding which I probably do every day as well. The front plate law is :bs . Now I live in Georgia and don't have to sweat it.
It would have taken A LOT of tickets for me to add one.

In California, you are required to fit the front license plate, but about 1 in 10 don't. It's a poorly monitored infraction and with the sports cars I have or had I didn't put it on and have not been messed with yet...
Really hard to argue with any of the responses above. I am also in Texas and have been stopped 7 times for no front plate. Once by the city police and 6 times by Texas State Troopers. All 7 times I received just a warning. However, I decided when I owned my '99 FRC, and after the 7th time, that it wasn't worth it anymore. I do not like giving any law enforcement a reason, at any time, to pull me over. I don't like having it up there in front, but at least the black frame with my black cars doesn't look quite a bad. It's also the law here in Texas as you know. BTW, a few years ago my son got a ticket for no front plate on his truck. He went to court, plate in hand, showed it to the judge and the ticket was dismissed. Whatever you decide to do, good luck with the ticket.
