I have been a cop for 15 years, and a "gear head" for 25+ years. I am human. I see a lot of buttholes in my line of work. Traffic enforcement is a minor part of the job and although most of the average citizen's experience with cops is from traffic stops, most of the average cops experience with citizens is NOT from traffic, but from more serious matters. Matters of life and death, abuse, injury, harmful serious crimes. Stuff you only see parts of on the news. Stuff you can't, and don't want to see in your life daily. Stuff that nightmares are made of. It's easy to become jaded and skeptical in my line of work. It's necessary to maintain interests outside of work, like family, friends, and Corvettes! It's also necessary to maintain a sense of humor and be able to accept that many folks don't care for "big brother" or "Johnny Law" "harassing" them. People have had BAD experiences with cops and they tell their stories to others. Cops get caught on video it it makes the news and reflects badly on all cops. What makes a person want to be a cop? It varies. YES, some get into the job for the wrong reasons. Many get into the job to HELP people. I see heroic acts almost daily, but they are not newsworthy. A couple butthole cops beat a guy in cuffs and its national news. Unfortunately because of some degree of mystery surrounding the law enforcement profession we remain under a spotlight. Catching a cop being bad is way more interesting than catching a plumber or electrician or stock broker or CEO or cashier or computer programmer doing something wrong. I read the entire thread and I can not understand why this forum has become the place for such a conversation. We might as well debate abortion, religion and politics instead of sharing Corvette interests. Everyones own perception is their reality. I wont change yours and you wont change mine. If anyone is ever in the Chicago burbs and wants to experience what I do first hand, I can get you on a ride-along for a shift. Spend 8 hours with a cop and see it close up and personal before you put any of us in a category. We are all different from each other even within the law enforcement profession, just like you are different from other people that share the same careers as you do. At the end of the day, we are just individuals with lives away from our jobs. How about just focusing on the reason we are all reading this? We all love Vettes!

Truer words have never been said. It takes a lot restraint and diligence when you care about how you are perceived, especially when you are having a bad day. When you lose sight of that you risk damaging the publics' perception of you and those you represent.
The best example of restraint by a cop I have ever seen is the video of the Maine Trooper that stays cool as a cucumber while the irate motorist rips up the ticket and throws it out his window. The trooper then politely tells the motorist that he will be cited for littering if he does not pick it up. The officer killed the guy with kindness instead of aggravating the situation with threats of jail or strong arm tactics. I'm sure I would like that particular cop a lot. He is obviously very cool under pressure.
Interesting reading. This has become the classic internet forum bashing post. Probably because everyone reads into a few paragraphs and comes to the wrong conclusion.
I think the front license plate law is :bs . If the criminals don't want to get caught they can just take them off or exchange them- like they will obey that law.
I do agree that a generalization that all cops are bad is equally :bs .
On the other hand I think that rat's point on the drug war is right on track.
Its not a moving violation up here so most of us ignore it. Ill pay it and pay another I could care less. Check to see its not a moving violation. It is my understanding only moving violations affect insurance. :smash:
Back to the topic. I got a ticket for no license plate too (in Richardson TX).... went to court infront of the judge and paid nothing. Basically, all you have to do is stick the plate on the front of the car, take some pictures of it, show it to the judge, he will dismiss the ticket. I didn't even had to show any picture at all. I just told him that I took care of the problem, and it was dismissed.
It is just sad that they want you to ruin the looks of the car like that. I am pretty sure that the only reason you were stoped was because he wanted an excuse to look at the Vette :yesnod: I am sure that most if not all of us would be more than willing to show them our cars...there is no reason to give a ticket :nonod: IMHO
I didn't know it was in the constipation that I must have no Civil Disobedience.
What about the right to persue life, liberty and happiness?
Doesn't this front tag thing violate THAT right?
Oh and doesn't that first amendment give me the right to say "I ain't going to put that tag on there" to whoever I %# please?
