The only downsides to daily driving a C5 are the low ground clearance and jackasses in Hondas.
ftfy.
I had a kid in a Civic HF (isn't that the low HP high MPG version?) trying to pass me on my way in this morning. It was funny. I think it was even an automatic.
<edit> I went from $500/month in gas to drive my '92 Silverado to $275 payment + $300 gas to drive Ester. The $75 more a month is for the fun factor.
I wouldn't do it, the seats wouldn't last long and tires are about 2 times as much as my DD.
Life is too short to worry about seat covers and tires. The enjoyment I feel when driving my coupe is worth so much more than replaceable parts ever could.
It took me 30 years to finally be in a position in life that would allow me to finally own a Corvette. I'm going to milk every minute of enjoyment I possibly can out of it.
Purchased October 4th, 2013, over 2,000 miles before storage November 20th, 2013.
OUT of storage March 29th, 2014, and already exceeding 8,000= miles driven total.
So it looks like it's a 2,000 mile a month "Minimum" Daily Driver for me.
The grand-kids are Loving it too.
I wish my Vette could be dd. Gas prices in Europe (around 1.22Eur/l in my country) aren't friends of my wallet. With last Corvette I drove over 2000km and with new one 300km over three months.
I couldn't more highly recommend a 'Vette as a daily driver!! With as much stress and other negative factors as we deal with daily, why not make one daily experience a great one?!?!?!?

Yep, life has enough speed bumps. I drive my 04Z daily, rain or shine. Winters I pull out my 03 325i, that'll be a sad day putting the Z away again.
seat covers can be replaced, tires on what every your drive will wear out so whats an extra few hundred?
I drive mine daily even in the winter if roads are dry so hell yeah to daily driving! the only time i ever dont like driving my z06 is in gridlock traffic so i plain around it when i can but thats with any manual trans vehicle
I daily drive my Z as long as the roads are dry doesn't matter what season it is. The GTO(auto trans) only gets driven during inclement weather. Not that i'm afraid of the rain I just hate cleaning the car after.
The amazing thing about the C5 is how pleasant it is to drive. Most previous corvettes wee a lot more harsh. The C5 was a game changer for the corvette. It is not the penalty box the predecessors were. It is amazing how smooth and comfortable it is when you look at what it is capable of performance- wise. Tremendous touring car. Capable at the track. Nice around town.
When I daily drove my '03 Cobra, people would ask "Why are you driving that? Park it! It's going to be worth money!" With the Corvette, I'm getting similar responses.
I'm sorry, but I don't buy my car to garage, keep maintained and in pristine condition, pay a bunch of money for it, never have any fun in it, and then pass it on to someone for less money 5 years down the road who will then have a like-new car to drive and enjoy thanks to me for a much lower price.
I prefer to use my cars for the reason they were built - driving enjoyment.
This spring I sold my honda accord and am DD my 2001 vert. It's been great. Awesome to drive every day. If it weren't for winter here in Ohio, its probably all I would drive.
For me the gas mileage is great I drive like a grandpa and get 28 to 30 mpg.
Seat and ride are comfortable
I wonder if a Lamborghini vertical door would help me get in and out, especially as my garage is narrow
Anyone have experience with these doors?
